Introduction

Kyi-Leo dogs are a lovely, ideal cross between a Lhasa Apso and Maltese. Combing these two breeds together makes for a wonderful pet that has an amazing disposition. Kyi-Leo dogs have a sweet personality and are perfect family pets. They are a great dog to stay indoors when needed and enjoy a small backyard or daily walks for activity. Some dog lovers call the Kyi-Leo dog a “designer” dog, as they are small, laid-back, and just precious. Due to the fact that Kyi-Leo dogs have such a great temperament, these dogs enjoy really any activity that involves interaction and praise. They can be active and playful, while also being couch-potatoes and lap dogs. This breed makes great snugglers and cuddlers, that’s for sure!

Activity description

Your Kyi-Leo is probably very mild-mannered and has a great temperament. If your friends have dogs that are similar to your dog in terms of size and disposition, perhaps you could schedule a play date for socialization. If you have a backyard or a park nearby, scheduling a time for them to play together may be what your dog will really enjoy. You could even have one dog come into your home and let the two dogs play while you visit with a friend. It will also give you some social time as well! What a great way to spend some time on a weekend day or on an evening after work. Don’t forget the snacks and treats!

Step
1
Find a friend
Find a friend with a dog that you know very well. Be sure the other dog has a good temperament, like your Kyi-Leo. Meeting regularly with other canines will help your pal to keep and perfect their social skills. Set a date and time for a friend and their pup to come and visit, or meet them at a safe park or other place that is dog-friendly. It is fun for you and your friend, as well!
Step
2
Interaction and fun
Have the dogs interact with one another for a time, to get to know each other, or just reconnect after a past visit. While they are doing so, get some balls, a collapsible tunnel, hula hoops, a Frisbee, or other dog toys ready for them. You may put them all out or one at a time, depending on what you wish to do.
Step
3
Show the entertainment!
Show them various dog toys and let them play with you both and with each other. Before you know it, you will find a toy they both love and you can really have them interact with one another. You can play fetch with pretty much any item or see if they enjoy walking through the hoop or tunnel! This can be an agility teaching moment as well as a fun socialization exercise.

Favorite Toy
Jump rope
Activity description

This is an indoor game that is suitable for those owners who live in an apartment with their Kyi-Leo and don’t get out quite as much as they may like. It is also a game that can be made by you with just a few supplies. A jump rope works best since it is safe and doesn’t ravel or shed like some ropes can. By attaching your dog’s favorite toy, you can have your dog chase you around with the rope behind you, hence chasing the rope and their toy.  This game is an ideal way to give your dog exercise as well as the feeling of accomplishment once they catch it.

Step
1
Gather Items
Purchase a jump rope, or even two if you would like to tie them together and make it longer. Cut off the handle on one end, only leaving exposed rope. Or, you may choose to leave the handle depending on the toy you wish to use to entertain your dog.
Step
2
Get it ready
Find your dog’s favorite toy, or try a new one and tie it on the end of the rope. If you cannot tie it on the end, see if you can figure out a way to attach it using a keychain-like ring or clasp. Be sure anything you use to attach the toy is secure and cannot get in to your dog’s mouth.
Step
3
Pull it!
Walk through the house or outside with the rope in tow, leaving the toy at the end to drag on the floor or ground. Your dog may try to grab it. You may even need to run with it and see if your dog chases it! If your Kyi-Leo does, then you have found a great indoor or outdoor game to play with your dog, and it will give them some physical activity that includes great cardio work.

Cone for Rings
Colorful plastic rings
Activity description

Do you remember when you were young, playing with the colorful plastic rings and placing them on the cone? Well, the same can be done with your Kyi-Leo dog. Since they are small dogs, a small ring set should be used. You may find joy in showing your Kyi-Leo how to place the ring on the cone, and praising him when he does just that! These dogs are intelligent and are easy to train, so this game may be ideal for your dog!

Step
1
Introduce the rings
Lay out the plastic rings in a row. Let your dog become familiar with them. You may even wish to toss them and play with them for a bit with your playful pup. Doing this will allow your dog to see you playing with them and will also allow them to become familiar with them. This is the perfect time for them to practice picking the rings up.
Step
2
Teach the game
Take one ring, either on your own or from your dog’s mouth and place it on the cone. You can even be super adventurous and place it on the cone from your own mouth to show your dog how it is done! Whatever it takes to actually show your dog how this is going to work, right?
Step
3
Watch your dog and repeat
See if your dog can do the same! Your Kyi-Leo is very intelligent and eager to please, and may be able to do this right away. You may have to train him with repetitive play, and that is fine as well. If your dog can do the task, then it will give you both great moments of bonding and just plain fun!

More Fun Ideas...

Fetch

Of course, all dogs love this classic game. Be sure to use an item that your Kyi-Leo can grab, since they have a smaller mouth!

Jump Up!

Having a yummy treat in hand, teach your dog how to “jump-up” or “jump” by using the command. Once your dog jumps for it, reward your dog with the treat! Be realistic in your height expectations; you don't want your little buddy to get injured.

Conclusion

These various activities will ensure that your Kyi-Leo stays content by giving satisfaction every day. Even though this breed is very easy-going and does like to stay indoors, providing meaningful and enriching activities will keep your dog on their toes! Going outside for walks is something your dog will enjoy as well, and paired with the activities above, your Kyi-Leo, and you, will be happy and healthy!
