Introduction

Bd Terriers are the result of an American Bulldog and Bull Terrier breeding. While a Bull Terrier has a long, bulbous nose and the Bulldog a short, stumpy one, the Bd Terrier has a mix of the two. As a result, they are a unique breed in their own right. Bd Terriers get traits from both parents, but all dogs in a litter can often be different. In most cases, however, Bd Terriers are energetic, large, and fiercely loyal dogs that need plenty of entertainment and a family to love. Here are a few activity ideas as a helping hand.

Activity description

Bd Terriers are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as becoming overweight. With additional body weight, they may succumb to aches, pains, and other inconveniences. If you are looking for an activity that will help them to get in shape but won’t do their joints any harm, then try hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy is a beneficial activity for Bd Terriers and other dog breeds for both healing and fitness. It can be expensive for professional sessions, but 30 minutes once a week can provide both mental and physical stimulation for their needs. What’s more, it’s of a regular difficulty level and requires no tools except for a life jacket if they are not a confident swimmer.

Step
1
Find a center
Believe it or not, there is an abundance of hydrotherapy centers in the United States - all of which cater to your furry friend’s needs. Whether your Bd Terrier needs to lose weight or requires an activity with minimal joint pressure, you are sure to find a center to suit. To find one, look online or talk to friends and family. You may even find your local vet is happy to recommend one.
Step
2
Treadmill
One of the most beneficial hydrotherapy options for a healing or overweight dog is a hydrotherapy treadmill. With the help of a professional, put your dog in the water chamber with the treadmill and let them walk on it. It may take them a few goes to get used to it but they’ll love the coolness of the water and how this form of exercise doesn’t hurt their joints.
Step
3
Laps
One of the most popular hydrotherapy exercises is laps in a purpose-built dog pool. Your dog can either wear a life jacket or swim without it, and the goal is to help them stay fit and healthy by swimming up and down the pool. If your Bd Terrier doesn’t have good listening ears at the best of times, it may be beneficial to have them wear a life jacket with a handle for you to guide them.

Activity description

If you don’t have time to take your furry friend out for a walk, or you want an activity that doesn’t require your participation, then consider treating your Bd Terrier to a food puzzle. While you can spend a few hours building some with items you have at home, sometimes it’s equally as easy to buy one from your local vet clinic. The difficulty level is normal to suit your Bd Terrier’s nature, and it’s sure to entertain them for an hour or more. Furthermore, a food puzzle has a moderate price tag so it may well be within your budget.

Step
1
Choose a puzzle
When you head to your local pet store or veterinary clinic for a food puzzle, there are a few things you need to consider. Firstly, durability is important. Is your Bd Terrier a tough little chewer, or are they gentle on their toys? You can either opt for a hard, robust toy or one you know they won’t try to destroy. Then, pay attention to the intelligence level. Does your pup have the smarts of a Collie or are they of a simple nature?
Step
2
Select treats
While the aim of a food puzzle is to give your Bd Terrier a treat and keep them happy, that doesn’t mean you can’t be selective with your treats. Dog treats from the grocery store can be high in fat and salt. Where possible, opt for more natural options they will love all the same. Try out red peppers, pumpkin, sweet potato, cabbage, carrots, and even frozen anchovies.
Step
3
Supervise
Even though most pet store and vet food puzzles are safe for your Bd Terrier to play with on their own, they do need you to watch them - even if it’s from a distance. The last thing you want is to return to the room they’re playing within to an entirely destroyed toy that just cost you a lot of money.

Doggy Daycare

Activity description

An idle Bd Terrier can soon become overweight, and those who lead busy work lives may struggle to give their furry friend all the exercise and attention they deserve. If you don’t feel like your Bd Terrier is getting as much physical activity as they should, then why not consider Doggy Daycare? This easy all-weather activity is one that provides your pup with fun and excitement every time they attend. You can drop them off for the entire day with a leash and toy, then pick them up when you have finished work. It doesn’t get much easier than that.

Step
1
Find a facility
Given how many dog owners there are in the United States, you can be quick to assume there are many doggy daycare facilities to cater to busy workers. However, each one will be different, offering something unique that may or may not appeal. Think about what you want in a facility, then go on the hunt. Research online, talk to friends and family and ring the centers. You want to be happy with wherever you take your Bd Terrier.
Step
2
Set a routine
You can’t expect your Bd Terrier to adjust well if you all of a sudden put them in a daycare facility for hours on end. Instead, work on establishing a routine to which they can slowly adjust. Begin with a supervised visit where you stay with them, then slowly work your way up from a half day visit to a full day stay.
Step
3
Attend
Now that your dog knows what to expect when you drop them off and that they will have a lot of fun, you can rest assured they are getting all the entertainment and physical activity they require. You can then pick them up after work with the peace of mind that they will be ready for a long nap rather than more exercise!

More Fun Ideas...

Fetch

Bull Terriers love to play fetch, especially when it involves a big rubber ball they can slobber all over! Therefore, it’s easy to assume that a Bd Terrier will be no different. Buy a fun fetch toy, take them into a fully-fenced and large grassy area, and let them run riot! All the to-ing and froing is surely enough to have them burning off their pent-up energy.

Beach Trip

When the sun is beating down, it can be a challenge to keep cool. Think about how a dog feels! With no way of sweating to cool down, they can battle to regulate their temperature more than most. That’s why a trip to the beach could be an excellent activity option. Load up the car with a toy, towel, and leash, and make your way to your local watering hole. Spend an hour frolicking in the water to burn off all that pent-up energy.

Conclusion

A Bd Terrier is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you’re going to get. However, given the personality of both the Bulldog and Bull Terrier, you can expect to get a loyal and pawsitively adorable dog that will tie into your home life beautifully. Make every moment special by treating your furry friend to any of these activities above.
