Introduction

Bologcos are Cocker Spaniels crossed with a Bolognese. Both breeds are sweet, family-oriented and loving breeds, but together, they form a sensitive, cute, and adorable dog with incredible manners. You can raise them in a house with a yard or even an apartment, and they will be happy with the arrangement. They are also more suitable for patient people who can show them new tricks and provide them with the stimulation they require. Here’s how you can get started.

Activity description

The Bologco is more or less a hypoallergenic breed, but they still shed to some degree, and still require regular grooming. If you don’t groom your Bologco, you may find they end up with matted fur and knots - making them look disheveled. Grooming can be a calming, comfortable, and straightforward activity that doesn’t cost a lot of money. It can also save you a considerable amount of cash you may have spent at the groomers. Set aside half an hour, buy scissors, a brush, and pet-safe conditioning products, and get to work. Your Bologco will be looking dapper in no time.

Step
1
Trim
The first step is to get your dog comfortable and relaxed and begin trimming any knotting, matting, and tangles. If their fur is longer than it should be, trim it back to a more manageable level. Be careful with the scissors and do not cut too close to their skin. Trim around their ears and paw pads as well.
Step
2
Brush
Once your Bologco’s fur is free of tangles, set about brushing it through thoroughly. Doing so can help to distribute your pup’s natural oils as well as removing any final, hidden tangles. If your dog likes to venture outdoors into nature, brush more often. It doesn’t take long for your Bologco to come inside with dirt and debris throughout their fur.
Step
3
Condition
If you are having problems trying to brush through your dog’s fur, and you have trimmed it as much as you can, then opt for a conditioning treatment. You can buy a solution from your vet that aids in loosening tangles, softening fur, and making grooming far easier. A small outlay of money can see you saving so much instead of going to the groomers.

Treats
Activity description

Bologcos require both mental and physical stimulation, so when you are teaching your Bologco how to play a game, you are offering a mixture of both. A game of tag is a free activity that ticks those boxes while only requiring treats and 10 minutes of your time a few times per day. You can play it inside and outside and it will end up being one of your favorite games. It also caters to your Bologco’s needs for short bursts of activity rather than hour-long games that tire them out a little too much.

Step
1
Treats
Grab a handful of treats and take your dog into an open area with plenty of room to move. A backyard or a large living area without any obstacles can be a great place to start. Turn your back to your dog so they can see you but you can’t see them.
Step
2
Run
It might seem strange, but to teach your dog how to play a game of tag, you need to run away from them! With treats at the ready, turn your back and begin running from them. Use as much energy as possible. The more excited your Bologco is, the better it is and the more involved in the game they can become.
Step
3
Call them
After running away from your dog, call them to you and use your trigger word “tag” when they get to you. Give them the treat as a reward for chasing you. Repeat this process until it becomes like first nature. Bologcos are intelligent but they are also not very confident. They need plenty of positive reinforcement that they are doing the right thing.

Treats
Activity description

Are you looking for an activity to fill in some time but won’t cost the earth? Teaching your dog how to play beg may be the answer. This activity is one that only requires the use of treats, but will have your dog running around like a madman with excitement. Bologcos jump at the chance to take part in fun, stimulating activities to challenge them mentally, and teaching them to beg is one of them. What’s more, once they learn this all-weather game, you can use it as an icebreaker. How cute is beg as a party trick? It’s time to teach your Bologco today.

Step
1
Treat engagement
The first step is to engage them with a treat. Have them sit on command in front of you and have them want the treat. Hold it at eye level so they can see it. Make sure it’s something delicious they don’t get often and will happily work for it.
Step
2
Raise it up
Stage two involves raising the treat up to get them up onto two legs. Initially, you may need to provide balance support with your knees. Do so if necessary but remove your knees when they can get up onto their hind legs with confidence. Keep raising the treat, praising them and giving it to them once they are on their two legs.
Step
3
Trigger word
Finally, involve the use of the trigger word. When you get out a treat, show it to them, then raise them up, use the word “beg” when they get up onto two legs. Use your positive energy and the promise of a treat to show them that jumping up on two legs is the way in which to get a treat.

Walk

Bologcos need mental stimulation more so than physical, but there is still nothing quite like a walk outside to clear the head and put a smile on your face. Bring your Bologco along for the trip. Put them into a harness or clip on a leash and head around the block. It doesn’t have to be a long walk, but any trip outside will be enough to tick the boxes for their needs.

Chew Toys

Bologcos are ideal for apartment dwellers for many reasons, but you still need to offer them toys they can interact with at their leisure. Chew toys can be the solution. If you buy them a toy basket and fill it with toys, they will be able to grab one or two out as they please, offering plenty of mental stimulation when they need it. Your input is rarely necessary.

Conclusion

If you are a family with older children or an apartment dweller, you will find a Bologco is for you. The Bologco grows no bigger than 20 pounds and is loving, loyal, and friendly to you and other pets you may have. However, they can be precious and have high expectations. You will need to always show pawsitive energy toward them if you want them to react in a pawsitive way! The activities above may be of assistance.
