Introduction

The Boxer Chow is a medium-sized designer dog that is created by crossing the Boxer and the Chow Chow dog breeds. More often than not, this hybrid displays qualities of both parent breeds. In fact, Boxer Chows have a muscular build, a distinctive black mask, square profile and broad skull, reminiscent of both the Boxer and the Chow Chow dogs. The Boxer Chow cross-breed is renowned for being graceful, dignified and loyal in nature. However, unlike most dogs, they are not fond of being fondled or fussed over. This well-behaved breed is a great family pet and companion because they get along well with their owners and all the other members of their families.

Activity description

Despite having a medium build, Boxer Chows have a great appetite and can eat more than what you would expect from them. For dog owners who are always on the go or are busy during most days, ordinary dog food would have to suffice. If you think about it, when was the last time that your dog enjoyed a special meal? One activity that you can do within the comforts of your own home, and one that your pooch will truly appreciate, is cooking. This means cooking a hearty meal not only for yourself but also your four-legged buddy. This activity is cheap and can be done any time you wish.

Step
1
Find a recipe
In order to prepare a meal for your beloved pooch, you should first look for the perfect doggy meal recipe. Do you want to reward your pooch with some meat? Or are you after a more “gourmet” meal for your dog? Whatever your mood is for the day, you will surely find a dog-friendly recipe that meets your preferences. Common ingredients in yummy homemade dog-friendly meals are rice, eggs, vegetables and a protein such as lean beef or chicken.
Step
2
Buy the necessary ingredients
When you have picked the doggy meal recipe that you will cook for the day, go out to the store and buy the needed ingredients for this recipe. If there’s an outdoor or farmer’s market near you, you can even take your pooch with you to help you do some shopping.
Step
3
Whip up a lovely meal
After shopping for the ingredients, bring everything to the kitchen and start cooking. Follow the procedures for cooking as written in the recipe. You can even have your dog hanging around the kitchen so you have an official food taster. Once you are finished cooking, place your dog’s meal in a doggy bowl and yours in a plate. Set up the area where you will be eating and enjoy your food together.

Activity description

Most dogs find it exciting when exposed in new surroundings, and Boxer Chows are no different. Dogs are often keen to try new things in new places. If you want to try a new activity with your Boxer Chow, a good option would be to go swimming. This activity is particularly beneficial for your pooch because Boxer Chows are not really tolerant to heat. Moreover, swimming is low-impact activity but is effective in burning off some energy. Another advantage of this activity is that it can be done in a number of places, so it should not be that difficult to find a suitable swimming spot where you can take your pooch.

Step
1
Find a swimming spot
Thanks to the internet age, it has become fairly easy to do just about anything. This includes looking for a swimming spot near your place. Websites like Yelp provide a list of local places to go to, including reviews and photos from users who have actually visited. You may also do things old school and simply ask around for good swimming spots.
Step
2
Enjoy the water
Once you have found the right swimming spot that meets your needs, pack up some of the essentials. Bring a towel, a flotation vest for your dog and some food and water. You may also bring some floating toys which your pooch can play with while in the water. Then, head down to the spot you chose and go for a dip. If your pup is an experienced swimmer, then go ahead and enjoy the water together. If they are new to the sport, ease them into it gently while having them wear the flotation vest. No matter the skill level of your Boxer Chow, never leave them unattended around or in a body of water.

Activity description

Since the parent breeds of the Boxer Chow are both active, it is only natural that this hybrid dog will need a significant amount of exercise in a day in order to be physically satisfied. If you are looking for a fun game that will provide plenty of exercise for both you and your pooch, look no further than going for a game of Frisbee. This activity is a great way to incorporate lots of movement into your dog’s exercise routine because it is fast-moving, amusing, effective and easy. Plus, it is practically free; all you need is a wide space to play in and a Frisbee disc.

Step
1
Familiar with the disc
If your Boxer Chow has never encountered a Frisbee disc, you cannot expect them to automatically know what to do with it. The most important but neglected step when it comes to playing Frisbee is to get your dog familiar with the disc itself. Some dog owners even use the disc as a plate for dog food or treats in order for the dog to build some form of attachment to it.
Step
2
Practice using positive reinforcement
Once your dog has formed an attachment to the Frisbee disc, start training them to fetch the disc. You can start by rolling the disc on the ground. Observe if your dog will go after the Frisbee. You can use further motivation such as positive reinforcement or rewarding of treats to get your dog more eager to play.
Step
3
Play some Frisbee
Once the “practice” stage is over, you can start throwing the Frisbee. Initially, throw the disc low and close so your dog will find it easy to catch it. Gradually, you can start to increase the height and distance until your dog gets the hang of catching the disc in their mouth. Of course, you will want to train them to come back to you with the Frisbee so that you can continue the game!

Ice Cream Togetherness

The Boxer Chow is one of those breeds who thrive better in cold temperatures. However, in the summer season, there’s not much the owner can do with regards to the weather. What you can do is try to ease things for your dog; a good way to do so is to have something to help cool off. Buy your dog a plain ice cream or a “pupsicle”. Get your own ice cream and sit somewhere while enjoying your cold treat.

Evening Run

Boxer Chows are an active breed that is in need of regular exercise. However, what owners of this dog find challenging is exercising during the day. It is a well-known fact that Boxer Chows do not tolerate the heat well. So, instead of a morning run, why not change things up and go out at night instead? This way, you get to squeeze in a workout for the day without running the risk of your pooch getting a heat stroke.

Conclusion

The Boxer Chow is a peaceful, devoted and protective dog that any dog owner can appreciate. This cross-breed is good-natured and gentle, which means they can be trusted around children and other pets. If you are looking for a dog to add to your growing fur family or you simply want a guard dog and family pet, then this may be the perfect choice for you.
