Introduction

When the wonderful Cairn Terrier is combined with the attention-loving Poodle, the resulting hybrid dog, known as the Cairnoodle, is friendly and energetic. Other than that, they are also renowned for wanting cuddles and engaging in activities with their owners, particularly when they take on more from their Poodle parent. While you cannot really determine the exact temperament of each Cairnoodle, they are generally warm and eager to please. Hence, Cairnoodles can make for excellent companions and family pets. Additionally, they can be easily trained to take on various tasks and activities that will help give them physical and mental satisfaction.

Activity description

Cairnoodles are one of the most compassionate and well-behaved designer dogs ever. Hence, they are a great choice for voluntary work. An interesting and fulfilling volunteer program that your dog can take part in is a canine-assisted reading program. In this advocacy, children with learning and reading difficulties are provided with canine pals to whom they can read to. This helps improve their communication skills and gives them the confidence to read without the fear of being judged by someone else. Dogs make for great listeners; it helps that they are also adorable-looking! The Cairnoodle is a perfect choice to participate in canine-assisted reading programs because of their warm and friendly nature.

Step
1
Certified in animal-assisted therapy
Canine-assisted reading programs might seem easy and straightforward but they have requirements when it comes to the dogs that they accept as volunteers. The primary prerequisite is a certification for animal-assisted therapy. Lots of organizations, such as Therapy Dogs International and Pet Partners, offer testing and certification. Find one that you like and get your dog certified.
Step
2
Organizations for reading
Once your pooch passes all the necessary exams and becomes an official therapy dog, the next thing to do is to reach out to an organization that offers canine-assisted reading programs. Oftentimes, the organization you choose will send you the list of requirements and the procedures that you would have to follow so that your dog can volunteer. Both you and your dog will have a sense of accomplishment after the task; be sure to shower your Cairnoodle with praise and a treat or two after the day is done.

Activity description
Cairnoodles are well-known for their intelligence and trainability. As an owner of this breed, you can have a lot of fun teaching your dog some new tricks that can wow and impress others. A good game to teach your dog is the name game. Teaching your dog to put away toys is one thing but can they put away these toys by name? This is where this activity comes in handy. In the name game, your dog learns the specific names of their toys and can clean them up by command. Dogs are inherently good at vocabulary and, with patience and repetition, they can eventually categorize their toys by name.
Step
1
Choose a toy and assign a name
If your dog has lots of toys, it might take some time to learn the name of all of them. To avoid overwhelming your dog with too much information, start with a single toy and assign a name to this toy. For instance, if you choose a rubber tug toy, assign the name “Tug” to it.
Step
2
Train your dog
After you have picked a toy to focus on, start introducing your dog to its name. Hold the toy in one hand and say “Tug” to your dog. Say it repeatedly until your dog grabs hold of the toy. If he does, give a treat as a reward. This will allow your dog to understand what you are trying to do and motivate them to learn. Repeat the process multiple times until your dog associates the name with the toy. Try to keep your training sessions short so your dog won’t get bored. Eventually, you can move on to other toys until your dog learns all the names of their favorite toys. Then it will be time to teach them how to clean them up!.

Activity description

The hardest part about going out and running errands is having to leave your dog behind at home. This is difficult not only on your part but also for your dog. Cairnoodles, in particular, are known to get really attached to their owners. In fact, when left alone for too long, this breed can develop separation anxiety. So the next time you have to visit the pet store, bring your dog with you. Most pet stores allow owners to bring their doggy friends with them. Not only is this activity quality time spent between you and your pooch, it also allows for socialization with other customers and their canine companions.

Step
1
Choose a store to visit
Take your pick of which store to visit for the day. Most, if not all, pet stores welcome their customers’ four-legged friends. However, the majority of these stores do require dogs to be well-behaved and on a leash. Make sure to follow the rules set by the store that you will be visiting.
Step
2
Shop and mingle
When you have picked out the store, go and visit it with your furry buddy. You can even let your dog do the shopping and buy toys or treats that they might take a liking to. While you are in the store, use it as an opportunity for your dog to socialize with other people and dogs who are also doing their shopping.

Trim Your Dog's Nails

Cairnoodles, like most dogs, need to be maintained on a regular basis. A part of dogs that is often neglected is their nails. Take time to give your dog a “pawdicure” and trim their nails. Just be careful not to cut the nail too short to avoid harming them.

Muffin Tin Game

An entertaining indoor game that your Cairnoodle can play is the muffin tin game. In this game, you place treats in a muffin tin tray and cover it with tennis balls. Then, you get your pooch to find the treat. It’s a mentally stimulating game that your dog will find rewarding.

Conclusion

The Cairnoodle is the perfect canine combination for those looking for an enthusiastic and loving dog that is always up to learn something new and amuse the people around them. This breed needs an equally friendly and caring owner that can give them the love and affection that they want and deserve.
