Introduction

Summertime in Iowa is lovely, but it can also be sweltering. Any time you decide to go on an outdoor adventure with your dog in the height of the heat, it is advised that you pack plenty of water for you and your four-legged buddy. Dehydration can sneak up without much warning. Also, many small dogs and elderly canines like to be transported around in a pet stroller while on adventures. Pet strollers are wonderful because most of them have sun visors that help provide much-needed shade for your canine buddy. Activity description
Lake Red Rock is the biggest lake in the central region of the state of Iowa. You can camp at the lake or visit for the day. It is an ideal oasis on a hot day. There is a lovely walking trail that runs around the lake and through the various campgrounds. The path goes all the way to the nearby town of Pella.  The recreation opportunities around Lake Red Rock are abundant. You can go boating, biking, hiking, walking, or fishing. Dogs are permitted everywhere except at the swimming beach area. However, if your pooch wants to dip a toe there are other areas around the lake that are open. During your stay, your dog must remain on their leash.
Step
1
Go boating
Boating on a hot day is ideal. The wind in your dog's hair as you zip across the water can be a fun experience for both of you. However, some dogs are hesitant at first to get on a wobbly boat. Offer encouragement and a handful of dog treats. If you plan on boating with your pooch you should make sure they wear a life vest in case they accidentally fall into the water. A canine life vest is typically equipped with a handle so that the dog can be lifted from the water.
Step
2
Go for a walk
If you hit the trail in the early morning or evening hours, the temperature will probably be starting to cool off outdoors. Be sure to stop frequently to provide water for your pooch. Also, take a few rests under trees or in other shady locations. Bring along plenty of water to drink as well as doggy waste disposal bags to leave the trail in pristine shape.
Step
3
Cool off in the water
Dogs are not allowed in the human swimming area of the lake but you can dip a toe in numerous other areas around the shores of the water. Let your pooch wade a bit to cool off and explore the underwater sights. You might even want to join them for a dip because nothing cools you both off like a bit of cold water flowing around your tootsies.
