Activity description
Located in Carson City,  Carson River Park is a 40-acre park located along the river. At the park, your pup can be off-leash at all times, where they can walk alongside you on granite walking paths, hang out with you while you fish, run and play, and even take a dip in the river to cool off. There is a river ramp for non-motorized watercraft; bring along a kayak or canoe and take your pooch for a ride! The Carson River Park is a wonderful place to spend time with your pup while ensuring they (and you) have the option to cool off.
Step
1
Plan your visit
First, you will want to plan your visit to Carson River Park. You may just plan to take your pooch for a quick walk, or want to bring a kayak or canoe for a ride on the river with your special friend. You may choose to go earlier in the day to avoid the highest temperatures or decide to go when the day is at its hottest in order to cool off in the river.
Step
2
Pack the essentials
Once you have a plan, you will want to pack what you need for your adventure. Make sure to bring a leash - even though the park is off-leash, you will want to be able to have the option to keep your pooch leashed if necessary. If planning to kayak or canoe, you will need to bring your watercraft and possibly a life jacket for your dog. Make sure to bring drinking water for you and your dog (it is important to keep hydrated) as well as some treats, which will be helpful for rewarding and if necessary distracting your pup. If your dog enjoys a game of fetch you can bring a ball or a frisbee. A picnic lunch for you may also be fun to take along!
Step
3
Enjoy your park adventure
Once you are packed you can head to the park! Keep your dog on their leash while in the parking area to ensure their safety. When you are inside the park, you can let your pooch off-leash and the two of you can enjoy some outdoor activity together. If taking a walk, make sure to stop frequently to offer your pup water; this is very important in hot weather. If you choose to kayak or canoe with your pal, don't tie them to the boat; should it tip over, your pooch can get stuck. When you are ready to leave the park, put your dog back on their leash, return to the car, and turn on the air conditioning!

Kiddie Pool
Activity description
On a hot day in Nevada your pup will enjoy going for a swim. You can easily make that happen for your pooch by purchasing a kiddie pool and filling it with water. Choose a shady spot for the pool and set up a chair for yourself. You can relax and enjoy watching your canine companion frolic in the water or just relax in the pool while they cool off.  The pool can be an activity on its own or a way for your pup to cool off after spending some time in the heat.
Step
1
Purchase a kiddie pool
Finding a kiddie pool for your pup should not be too difficult. They can typically be found at discount stores or toy stores. The pools come in a variety of sizes; the size you choose will depend on the size of your dog. For a small dog, a small pool may offer plenty of room to play, while a larger dog will require a larger pool to stretch out in.
Step
2
Scout the yard
Once you have the pool, you have to find a place for it. You may have numerous options or just one place where it will work. Ideally, seek a place with shade, as that will help you remain cool as you watch your dog have a blast in their new pool. Being in a shady spot will make it easier for you and your pup to remain outside longer.
Step
3
Pool play
Once you have found a place for the pool and have filled it up, let your dog check it out at their own pace. Depending on whether or not they have spent time in water, they may feel comfortable immediately or need time to check it out before jumping right in. Some canines need a little encouragement; put a favorite toy in the pool as incentive for trying it out. Your dog may romp and play in the pool or just sit in it and enjoy the cool water. As for you, you can watch your pup or get right into the pool with them!

Puzzle Toy
Treats or Kibble
Activity description
On a hot day, when it is hard to get motivated to go outside, offer your pup a puzzle toy. A puzzle toy is a usually made of hard plastic or rubber; you can place a treat or some kibble in the toy and give it to your buddy to enjoy. They will then have to figure out how to manipulate the toy in order to get the food out. A puzzle toy is a stimulating way for your pup to get a physical and mental workout and you will likely enjoy watching your pooch try to figure it out!
Step
1
Choose the fun
There are different types of puzzle toys available for your pup; do some research online or experts at your local pet store can provide you with information on the different options. Some puzzle toys, like the Kong, can be filled with dog-safe peanut butter or something sticky, while others will have holes where the kibble or treats that you put in the toy can be released. Choose one, or several, that you think may be fun for your dog.
Step
2
Fill it up with goodies
Once you have the toy, you can fill it up as instructed. Some pet parents choose to feed their pup by way of the puzzle toy, which will help prevent overeating or eating too fast. Once you fill up the puzzle toy, you can present it to your pup. If your dog is new to puzzle toys, there may be some confusion at first. Don't worry; your clever buddy will quickly figure out the objective!
Step
3
Play time!
Once you hand over the puzzle toy to your pup, you can watch them work to figure it out. The puzzle toy will catch your canine's interest as they attempt to work the food or treats out of the toy. This will take concentration and persistence on the part of your pup, which will keep their mind and body busy!
