Water and water bowl
Wagon or stroller
Activity description
If your furry friend enjoys stretching out in the sun, then they’ll probably love doing that even while they’re moving. Sometimes, we actually allow our little dog to walk a little bit before actually placing her over in the wagon. She’s small, so her legs give out before ours do. This is great for the pooch who loves being outdoors and lying out, basking in the heat. And you could have your children help as well. This could certainly be a family affair, and the neighborhood will certainly love seeing a pup on wheels, catching some rays on those beautiful, warm days.
Step
1
Gather supplies
First, you’re going to need some sort of stroller or wagon in order to truly cater to the dog who likes to lie out in the sun. You can check your local thrift store for some less expensive products, but you might also journey to your local toy, hardware, or even pet supply store.
Step
2
All aboard!
Prompt your pooch to hop into the wagon immediately, or allow them to walk around your property or the neighborhood first. Sometimes, this will tire them out (depending on their size), and you can spend the rest of your time carting them around, letting them stretch out in all the glorious sunshine.
Step

Family matters
Include everyone. Indeed, you’ll be glad you have a few extra bodies and hands to help with this task, especially if your lazy dog is a large one. Take turns pulling the wagon or cart, or pushing the baby stroller. It’ll be fun for your kids. Just keep an eye out for traffic. Be safe always!

Picnic blanket

Activity description
Ah, a little R&R, some rest and relaxation after a hectic week at work… It just doesn’t get much better. And when you add your favorite furry pal to the mix, well, I guess it can get better. Dogs make everything better. Stretching out, napping, and just being lazy with your best friend is certainly a worthwhile afternoon activity. When that sun is sinking and throwing its longest warm rays across the world, you can throw your cares away and soak up all that lovely Vitamin D alongside your pet. They need it, too. So find a sunny spot and get to R&R-ing. You won’t be sorry. We all need to relax sometimes, and doing it with your pup is Wag!-suggested and Wag!-approved.
Step
1
Prepare the launch pad
By launch, we mean a launch into rest. So, the best kind of launch! Spread your picnic blanket or outdoor throw onto the ground in a warm, sunny spot. You might get close to some shade as well, that way you roll right over and into that shade if you get too hot. Likely, your dog will lie in the sun until you make the move to go back inside.
Step
2
Rest your bones
Next, we recommend putting on some tunes. Play them on a portable radio or your cell phone. Enjoy the music, and enjoy a snack. Feed your pup some dog treats. Afterward, do some serious napping or staring into each other’s eyes. Have a conversation with your dog. Tell them all your troubles. They’re literally great listeners.
Step
3
Hammock time
You could even stretch out in a hammock with your furry BFF. Most of the time we hammock in the shade because we have to find two trees, but you can locate those still-sunny spots even between two trees. Look for those, and you can actually swing in the warmth; you can both rest while suspended in the toasty air.

Swat toy (homemade or new)
Activity description
We’ve all seen those swatting toys that are made for cats. If we own both dogs and kitties, then we might even have a swat toy already. Anyway, this is the perfect game for the sunbathing pooch. They can actually keep on simply lying out in the sun as they play, although we suspect they won’t be able to help themselves. They’ll still enjoy the warmth of our closest star, but they’ll probably be on their feet in no time. And that’s okay! It’s in our pup’s nature to chase, to hunt. So when they see the toy bird or fish at the end of a line, hovering above them, well, they’re going to get really excited in a hurry.
Step
1
All about the toy
You can make one of these toys right at home, or you may find one at a pet store. If your dog won’t tear it to shreds in a matter of minutes, you could even use one of the dangling cat toys. Tie on a toy with some line, almost like you’re getting ready to go fishing. You’ll need a pole as well.
Step
2
Big bait
And basically, you are fishing. That swat toy is the bait. Your dog will enjoy either swatting the toy bait or actually trying to grab it in their mouth. And that’s fine. You might play the game in a “keep away” style, or you might allow your dog to receive the toy when he finally reaches it. This will depend on how you attach the toy.
Step
3
Invite a friend
This can be great for more than one pup, so feel free to bring along friends that live with you, or invite a friend over for some fun. You might even meet a new canine in the park with your homemade swat toy contraption. No doubt, your dog will be having so much fun. It’ll be contagious. And it’ll also be exciting to compete for the toy.

Rolling in the Deep

Rolling around on a blanket or even in a lush grassy area can be a good, lazy activity with your dog. You’re stretched out, and you’re able to roll in all the warm sunlight. Your dog might even like rolling down hills with you, but that becomes way more active really quickly!

Car Rides

Don’t forget! Lots of warm and delicious sunlight floods the car when you’re out and about driving. Bring your pooch along for the ride. They’ll curl up and have a ball (well, eventually). If you can let the top down, do so. After standing a while and feeling the wind in their face, they will stretch out and take a snoozer.

Conclusion

Dogs aren’t the only ones that like to lie in the sun. We humans do, too. So whenever you’re poolside, or anywhere really, take the time to relax, extend the limbs and get comfy in the springtime or summer warmth. Your dog will appreciate the bonding moments. More than anything, they want to be close to you.
