Activity description
Hunting dogs have an amazing sense of smell. In the wild, they use their noses to sniff out the prey or danger and chase after it. Without their incredible noses, they would not be effective hunting dogs. In many parts of rural Asia, Hortayas are still used as hunting dogs. They rely on their sense of smell. Your Hortaya has a wonderful gift, and it would be a shame not to enhance their sniffing skills. While you might not be hunting in the wilds of Asia any time soon, it would still be impressive to see how well your dog's sniffer works.
Step
1
Hide a treat
This game is basically a treasure hunt but your dog uses their nose instead of clues. Start off simple. hide their favorite toy among your own things. Hide it in an easy place so that they can find it. When they do, praise them and give them a treat.
Step
2
Extend the search
Once they know what to do, and are excited to be playing a game, you can extend the boundaries of the game. Hide several treats in different places. You will be surprised how quickly they find it. Make sure that you hide the treats or toys in accessible places. You do not want to frustrate your dog by hiding the treat in a place they cannot reach.
Step
3
Confuse them
Hide the treats or toys where your dog might never expect. Make your dog work for that treat, or rather, make your dog's nose work for that treat. You could hide the treat with your vegetables, or wrap it in a blanket and hide it in your shoe cupboard.

This is one of the first tricks you will teach your dog. When playing fetch, get them to drop whatever they are holding before you reward them. Once they get the hang of that, you can start making them drop things in a box and helping you clean up their mess.

This is a fun game if your dog already knows some tricks. It also helps them to think quickly. Let them go through their usual repertoire of tricks, but reward them when they do something new. They will combine old tricks to make new tricks, leading to some interesting tricks. Remember not to reward them for doing the same thing over again.

Conclusion

Your Hortaya Borzaya comes from a noble line of hunters. Without them, many people would have gone hungry. Thanks to their impeccable skills, they are one of the best hunting breeds in the world. These dogs were bred for speed and agility, along with all that, they brought intelligence and obedience to the table. Which is why they need to be entertained. They need to enhance their skills and get rid of all that energy that is building up in their bodies. Teach them to run around cones, find treats in smelly places and think of new tricks to entertain you and the family. They can't hunt in the Asiatic wilderness, but they can spend time with you. We think they prefer the latter anyway.
