Introduction

A cross between the Italian Greyhound and the Beagle, the Italian Greagle is a loyal and playful canine companion. These dogs love their people and really thrive when they're accepted as an important member of the family, offering affection in abundance to those they care about.

Italian Greagles are also quite intelligent and energetic dogs, so they need lots of exercise and regular mental challenges to keep them happy.

The good news is that there are plenty of paw-some activities that not only give your Italian Greagle's body and mind a workout, but also give you an easy excuse to spend some quality bonding time with your pet. Here are a few of the best.

Halloween is the paw-fect time of year for some family fun -- who doesn't love getting dressed up and going trick-or-treating? Of course, your dog is probably the most important member of your family, so you'll want to include them in all the fun and games as well.

An easy way to do that is to take part in a Halloween pet parade. These paw-some pet walks are becoming an increasingly popular inclusion on Halloween events calendars right around the country, so why not get your pooch dressed up in their scariest (read: cutest) costume and get into the Halloween spirit?

Step
1
Find a parade
Check local events calendars to find any pet-friendly Halloween parades near you. Some events are designed specifically with pets in mind, but others simply specify that dogs are more than welcome if you'd like to bring yours along. Find a parade that sounds paw-fect for you and your pooch and then start planning your costumes.
Step
2
Get dressed
Choosing a Halloween costume for your dog can be a tricky task. There are heaps of ridiculously cute costumes available to buy, or you could always go the whole hog and make the costume yourself. Whichever approach you choose, you'll want to make your dog look as cute as possible and be sure that their costume doesn't cause them any discomfort.
Step
3
Join in the fun
When you're all dressed up and ready to go, head to the parade route and get ready to march. Your dog will love being the center of attention from the adoring crowd, and you and your pet will also get to meet plenty of other dog lovers and their furry friends. Best of all, you and your pooch get to enjoy a fun evening together.

There are plenty of ways you can spoil your pooch, some of them simple and others much more elaborate. If you're looking for a way to show your dog just how much they mean to you, throwing them a birthday party is pretty hard to beat.

Regardless of whether it's actually your pet's birthday or not, throwing them a party is a paw-some way to let them have fun, get some exercise and mental stimulation, and do a little socializing.

If this sounds like something your Italian Greagle might enjoy, let's take a look at how to plan the ideal birthday party for your four-legged friend.

Step
1
The guest list
The first thing you need to do is sort out who will be coming to the party. Take some time to think about which of your dog's canine pals they play best with and which pooches they'd love to have over to help celebrate their birthday. Once you've decided when and where to have the party -- either at your place or a local dog park -- you can then send out the invitations.
Step
2
Party prep
The key to a successful party is planning ahead. As well as putting up some balloons and decorations, plan some fun party games your dog and all four-legged guests can play together. Bake a dog-friendly birthday cake and some homemade treats for all pooches to enjoy, and make sure there's plenty of food and drink for the two-legged guests to tuck in to as well.
Step
3
Party time
The only thing left to do now is enjoy yourself. Greet all the guests as they arrive and let them loose to run, jump, sniff and play with all the other dogs. Laugh as they try the party games you've prepared, and get your camera ready so you get plenty of shots of them demolishing the birthday cake. And don't forget to spoil your dog with a couple of presents on their special day.

Scent Games

Activity description

Beagles are famous for their strong sense of smell and determination to follow an interesting scent no matter what is going on around them. If your Italian Greagle is a similarly sensational sniffer, there are loads of grrr-eat scent games you can play with your dog to keep them entertained and amused.

By putting their remarkable nose to work, your dog will be able to put their natural instincts into action. They'll also benefit from the mental stimulation on offer and from the simple pleasure of getting the chance to please you.

Check out these three fun scent games you can try with your dog.

Step
1
Find it
This simple game involves hiding a treat and then letting your dog follow their nose to find it. You can start out with basic hiding places and perhaps even let your dog see where you put the treat. However, once your dog understands the game, you can choose more complicated hiding spots and require your dog to work harder for their delicious reward.
Step
2
Pick a hand
Another quick and easy option, this game quite simply involves putting a treat in one of your hands and placing both hands behind your back. Switch the treats around and then put your hands back where your dog can see them. Your pooch can then sniff at each hand to determine which one is holding the treat -- when they get it right, reward them with a snack.
Step
3
Hide and seek
This is quite similar to the first game, but with the obvious difference that you hide yourself rather than a treat. When your dog either isn't looking or is out of the room, find a hiding place where you can conceal yourself from plain sight. When your dog can't find you, they'll use their sense of smell to track you down. Make sure to give them a treat when they sniff out your hiding spot.

Canine Parkour

Afternoon Nap

Feeling like a lazy afternoon on the couch? Your Italian Greagle will probably be happy to join  you, so why not curl up with your furry friend and snooze the day away?

Conclusion

The activities listed here are just a starting point, but hopefully they'll give you some inspiration to keep finding new and exciting games and adventures to share with your canine pal. Italian Greagles love being with their owner and being kept busy, so they'll love you all the more for making the extra effort to ensure that they're as happy as possible.
