Introduction

Old Croatian Sighthounds have a rich history, like most so-called 'aristocratic' breeds. Unlike these other breeds, however, this breed has just managed to claw its way from the brink of extinction. When Croatia was still part of Yugoslavia, these hounds had it tough. They were persecuted outright and nearly didn't make it as a breed. Fortunately, these lovely dogs have made a comeback, and if you own one you will know why. They are intelligent dogs who often won't give up easily. They are also accustomed to wide open spaces where they can run around and hunt, which is why unless you have extensive hunting grounds, you need to keep your Old Croatian Sighthound busy.

Activity description
All dogs are intelligent, but your dog is one of the most clever. But they could be even smarter. It is your duty as a dog owner to stimulate your dog's mind. When you take the time to make them flex their brain muscles, they get smarter and a lot more confident. Your dog will be easier to train if they are allowed to exercise their minds often. This does not require too much effort on your part and you can create brain games from items that are lying around the house. For this activity you will just need three things, but they will keep your dog busy for ages.
Step
1
Find a muffin tIn
The muffin tin is the most important component of the game. You might need to dig through a few old boxes but when you find one, you will be able to begin.
Step
2
Hide the treats
Hide a treat in each of the little muffin spaces, they can be any type of dog treat just as long as it fits into the tin and your dog will want to eat it. Now, cover the treat with a ball. A tennis ball should fit nicely in each muffin-shaped space.
Step
3
Have fun
Your dog will sniff the tin curiously and realize that there are treats hidden underneath the tennis balls. They will want the treats, but they will have to figure out how to get them. This is where you get to sit down and watch as your dog tries to get to the treats.

Activity description
Your dog already has a pretty solid vocabulary. They probably know the words for food, play time or even a few names. But you can always expand their vocabulary. This will make your dog a lot smarter and able to understand more complex commands. If done right, you could even turn it into a fun game for the two of you to play together. Training your dog is essential, but it does not have to be a boring exercise that the two of you dread. Choose fun activities that create a lasting bond between the two of you.
Step
1
Start small
Start with small things. Give an area in the house a name, and repeat that name to your dog. Or name their favorite toy. You could even start teaching them the names of your friends. Do not expect too much too soon though.
Step
2
Call them out
When your dog has learned a new word, test them on it by telling them to 'fetch toy' or 'go to the bedroom'. Do this as often as possible to reinforce the training. Soon your dog will know what you're talking about and follow the commands more quickly.
Step
3
Make it fun
Now that your Old Croatian Sighthound has a decent sized vocabulary, you can turn it into a game. Give them the same commands, but call them back each time to give them a treat and a new command. This will turn their training into a game and will leave the both of you smiling.

Activity description
Old Croatian Sighthounds are used to wide open spaces. They were bred to roam free and explore the great outdoors. Humans were also meant to spend more time outdoors. It might be time for you and your dog to go on a camping trip. Not only will this be a thrill for your pup, but it will also give you a nice break from all the stress you have been dealing with. Keep in mind that a fair bit of training is needed if you want to take your dog camping. Train them to stay within your sight. If you have hesitations about this, keep them leashed at all times,
Step
1
Planning
A trip like this is going to require planning, and a lot of it. You need to make sure that your destination is pet friendly. You will also need to stock up on tick medication and decide if your dog will need their own camping gear.
Step
2
Setting up
When you arrive at the campsite, let your dog help you set up. They might be eager to explore, but they need to familiarize themselves with their new surroundings first. Let them help you set up before you let them explore the great outdoors. Introduce them to the tent so that they are comfortable with it later when it is time to go to bed.
Step
3
Enjoy the experience
You're here. You finally made it. Now you can explore, hike, swim or just relax with your happy dog. A trip like this will do wonders for the both of you, and with a little planning, you can create some of the best memories you'll ever experience. When it is time to head back home, be sure to gather up your supplies and clean the campsite area; leaving the site pristine for the next camper is important.
