Activity description

Chasing is a natural instinct for many dogs — you may have even noticed your Poovanese set off in hot pursuit of birds or other small animals when out for a walk. If your dog loves to chase, it's quite easy to set up a game at home that takes good advantage of their strong prey drive and that doesn't involve them frightening the life out of nearby wildlife.

A game of chase is loads of fun for your dog and also a quite simple way for them to burn off some excess energy, so here's what you need to do to get started.

Step
1
Make your own chase toy
This first step requires you to do a little bit of construction. All you need to do is attach your dog's favorite toy to a short length of rope, and then tie the other end of the rope to a solid stick or perhaps a piece of PVC pipe. Make sure the rope is nice and strong and that everything is securely attached before moving on to step 2.
Step
2
Let the chase begin
Now you've got a ready-made chase toy, you can start dragging it along the ground and making it "jump" into the air to simulate the movement of prey. Your Poovanese should love chasing after their toy this way and that, leaping into the air as they try to catch it. Keep it out of reach for a while to make your dog work for it, but make sure you let them grab the toy every now and then.

Activity description

The Poovanese is quite an intelligent breed that loves being given regular mental challenges, so working obedience training into your regular routine is a paw-some way to engage your pooch's brain. And if you've got a large family, this fun training game will help your dog learn the benefits of coming when called by making them work for their supper. Over time, your dog should learn to listen to their people over and above all other distractions, and will know that they may well get a tasty reward for doing so.

If you want to introduce a little variety into your dog's dinner plans, here's what you need to do.

Step
1
Set the scene
Gather your family members together into a large area — the yard is usually your best bet, but you can also spread out in separate rooms around the house if you want to give your dog a tougher challenge. Make sure there's a distance of 20 feet or more between each person. Next, split up the amount of kibble your dog would usually eat for dinner evenly among all family members.
Step
2
Come
Now get the first person to enthusiastically call your Poovanese to them. When the dog responds and goes to that person, they should be rewarded with plenty of praise and allowed to eat the small amount of kibble that person has. Make sure everyone else remains quiet and doesn't cause any distractions so the dog knows who they need to go to.
Step
3
Repeat
One by one, every other family member can take their turn to call your dog, praise them and then feed them. This will allow your dog to enjoy a delicious meal, get some mental stimulation and learn to come when called all at the same time. Once your dog gets the hang of it, you can increase the distance between people and move into separate areas of the house to offer an even greater challenge.

Halloween is a wonderful time of year. Not only is there plenty of delicious candy — of course! — but it's also a grrr-eat time to enjoy some family fun. And your Poovanese is the most important family member of all, so you'll need to make sure you include them in all the festivities.

So when you're getting all dressed up to go trick-or-treating, why not dress your pet in a spooky costume and bring them along to join in the fun? There are heaps of ridiculously cute doggy Halloween costumes available, and your pet will love the chance to explore the neighborhood with their human family.

Step
1
Choose a costume
If you've never gotten your pooch dressed up for Halloween before, you might be surprised to learn just how many adorable canine costumes are available. Do some online shopping to find the paw-fect outfit for your pooch, or you might want to get out the sewing machine and make your dog's costume from scratch. Just make sure your pooch is happy to wear the outfit and that it doesn't cause any discomfort.
Step
2
Trick or treat
All that's left to do now is help your pooch into their costume, make sure everyone else is ready, and get ready for a night of pet-acular fun. Trick-or-treating is a whole lot of fun at the best of times, and it's even more enjoyable with your dog by your side. They'll be sure to attract plenty of admiring glances from everyone they meet, and their costume may even be impressive enough to earn them a tasty treat or two.
