Introduction

Schnau-Tzus are cute, feisty, little dogs with big personalities. A blend of Schnauzer and Shih-Tzu, a Schnau-Tzu likes to keep busy but they don't require as much exercise as bigger dogs do. They love to be with you, so spending time together is most important to your dog. Why not come up with some activities the two of you can do together whether indoors or out?  Your little pal loves to be active, and playing games or learning new tricks are always happy ways to while away some time.

Activity description
This is a game that your dog will love. It involves both playing fetch and using your pup's smarts. The name game is fairly easy for your dog to learn and can be played inside or out. Of course, you need to be the leader when playing the name game, but then, aren't you always the leader of the pack anyway? Don't stress over this one, just have fun with it. Not only can you use this as a game with your dog, but once they get the hang of it, your fur baby will even be able to help you clean up the house!
Step
1
Start the association
Pick two toys that look completely different. Give them each a different name, such as bear and rabbit. Pick up one of the toys and show it to your dog. Throw the toy across the room and say "Get the bear." When the dog brings the bear back, give him praise and a reward. Do this several times with the bear then switch to the rabbit and repeat.
Step
2
Focus on individual toy
Once you think your dog has the name of the toy down pat, try laying the toys on the floor side by side. Go to the other side of the room and take your dog with you. Tell the dog to fetch the 'bear'. When they get it right, it's time to celebrate with treats and praise. Smart dog? Try adding more toys!

Aromatic treats
Tennis Balls
Muffin tin
Activity description
This is a game that allows your dog to be successful, gain confidence, have fun, and enjoy some favorite treats. It teaches your dog nose skills and the ability to get what they are after. It's easy to play and you probably already have a muffin tin. Your only costs are for tennis balls and treats. Best of all, everything is reusable, except the treats, of course. This game lets your dog feel a sense of accomplishment. They love to please you and if you cheer them on they will be in doggie heaven. Treats and your pleasure! What a combination. It's perfect for any weather.
Step
1
Prepare the hunting grounds
Take a muffin tin and in several holes place a smelly treat. Swiss cheese or bits of lean chicken make good prizes. Now place a tennis ball in each hole in the muffin tin. Make sure you do this where your dog can't spy on you as you place the treats.
Step
2
Let the hunt begin
Place the filled muffin tin on the floor and tell your dog to "find". The object is for the dog to remove the ball and discover the treat. When it's found, allow your pup to devour the reward and give them lots of praise. If you make sure to cut the treats small you can play this game a few times a week without adding too many calories to your dog's diet.

water hose and water connection
Activity description
This is a fun game that is easy on you and fun for your dog. It's best done on a warm, sunny day. You can take it easy while your dog gets lots of exercise. All you need is a water hose and a place to connect it so you have free-flowing water.  You may want a comfy lawn chair because this is one game where you can sit down. Your little dog won't get a chance to lay around, though, because they will be busy chasing the water. This is  a fun time for the whole family and your pup is the star of the show.
Step
1
Get ready
Get the hose out and hook it to the connection. Make yourself comfortable in your lawn chair and turn the hose on. Make sure you have it pointed away from you when you do! You don't want to end up soaking wet just because you played a fun, silly game with your dog.
Step
2
Let it rip
Aim the hose where your dog can see it. Wave the water stream back and forth in front of the dog and encourage your pup to "get it". Your dog will enjoy chasing the stream of water from one spot to another trying to catch it. Every once in a while you should let it catch the water so they can indulge in a nice, cold drink.

Do you smile at all those pictures of pets on social media? Why not make one of them of your fur baby? A photo shoot with your dog can be great fun and result in some terrific pictures. Just use your smartphone or a traditional camera and start shooting. You might get your dog to pose for some pictures or take some candid shots. Your dog is a star!

Take Your Dog Shopping

Most dogs love car rides and if that ride winds up at a pet-friendly store, so much the better. These types of outings are great for socializing your fur baby with both people and other dogs.
