Activity description
Weekends and summer vacations are your Sharmatian's favorite times of the year because their whole family is around and ready to play. Why not take all that fun somewhere new and bring your pup and kids on a picnic to a park? Being outside together is an important bonding experience for everyone, and your dog will love to play chase with the kids and lay in the shade when they are tired. Taking the dog on a family picnic will ensure they have plenty of exercise, exposure to new places, and time with their very favorite people.
Step
1
Pick a spot
Find the perfect place for your family picnic. Look for local parks and picnic areas that allow dogs and have plenty of space to run and play. Some parks have specific areas with picnic tables, grills, and even covered shelter to keep you out of the hot sun or run. Look into leash laws for each area and find a spot that looks the best for your family. Some of these areas can be reserved in advance, and some are first come first serve.
Step
2
Pack everything
Make a list of everything you want to bring for an afternoon of family fun. Along with all the delicious food and treats, you'll need to bring toys, games, sunscreen, and don't forget the dog. Bring a blanket and long leash for your pup as well as an umbrella or something to create shade for them to rest and be comfortable. Pack a travel water bowl and bring their dinner if you're going to be out late.
Step
3
Time to picnic
When you have everything packed and the family and dog are loaded in the car, you're ready for a good old-fashioned picnic. when you get to your spot, make sure everyone pitches in setting up the table and food stations, getting the games out, and setting up the dog in their space. Then, spend the day playing games like fetch or frisbee with the dog, napping in the shade, and making important memories for the future.

Cuddly blanket
Child's favorite book
Activity description
Whether your child is a reading fiend or is having a little trouble sounding out words, reading to the dog will help them improve their skills and gain confidence without worry. Your dog is the perfect audience because they are patient, will never judge a mistaken word or long pause, and they are more than happy to cuddle up and listen to your child for hours. Reading to dogs can improve reading capacity and enjoyment in children, and it's one of the most loved activities for Sharmatians who can't get enough of their "kids."
Step
1
Introduce the idea
Reading is an essential part of your child's development, but sometimes reading time can feel like a chore. If your child is apprehensive about reading out loud to you or their classmates, suggest they spend some time reading to the dog. Sharmatians are patient and sweet pups, and your child might get very excited to read their furry best friend a bedtime story. Frame it as if they are doing something very important for their pup, and they will warm up to the idea.
Step
2
Pick a book
Let your child pick the book they want to read to the dog. You can make suggestions by asking your child what book they think the dog might enjoy or give them good dreams at night. Once your child has picked the book they want to read, make a cozy spot for them to cuddle with the dog and prepare to read. If the dog is allowed on the child's bed this will be easy. If not, make a comfy nest of blankets and pillows on the floor.
Step
3
Reading time
When they are ready and tucked in, leave them to it. Your child will feel braver and more empowered when it's just them and the dog. They will feel in charge and responsible for the bedtime story. They will also feel better taking time to sound out letters and words as the dog is patiently looking on. You can stand outside the room to listen and make sure reading is happening, but let them make their own ritual and rules. Soon reading will be one of their favorite things to do.

Activity description
Geocaching is the equivalent of a modern-day treasure hunt. People all over the world create a "cache," an ammo box or another storage item with special treats of their choice, post the GPS coordinates and invite others to find them. There are caches in neighborhoods, local parks, even dog parks all over the world. One fun summer activity for the family is to go on your own treasure hunt to see if you can find a "treasure" or two. Since these caches are outdoors, why not bring the family dog along for fun? Many of these caches involve hiking and your Sharmatian is more than willing to assist in the treasure hunt.
Step
1
Pick your cache
You can go online to find hundreds of caches near you. You can pick the terrain and adventure that works best for your family and dog's activity level. Some caches are easy to locate on popular trails or right around town while others are off-trail for miles and require bushwacking and hiking on rugged terrain. You'll need a map and a GPS to find them, and everyone can take turns making sure you're on the right track.
Step
2
Start the hunt
Sign up for a geocaching app so you can find new caches and share your adventures with the rest of the world. Prepare the family and dog for a hike and head out on the trail. Make sure you bring a backpack with plenty of water and snacks for you and the dog and a pen. Follow the app along the trail until you discover the cache. If it's well hidden your dog may even help you find it with their nose.
Step
3
Share your treasure
When you find the storage container for the cache, you can do a little happy dance and open it up. The first thing to do is to snap a picture of the expedition team, including the dog, with the cache. Next, sign the log book and read about the other treasure hunters who are there. You may find treasures or trinkets in the cache. The rule of thumb is to leave something of equal or greater value if you decide to take a trinket. These are usually small toys or key chains. Once you find your first cache, there is no doubt you'll be ready to look for more. Always remember to bring your trusty treasure hunting dog with you on every expedition.
