Activity description
Taking care of your dog's coat should become an important routine. Though they don't have long, long hair they do have a thick undercoat that requires weekly brushing. Instead of seeing this as a burden, you can make it into a fun, bonding playtime with your children. Turn brushing your dog into a day at the spa. Make it feel more fun and special by telling your kids it's spa day and asking them what they would like at the spa. While they are brushing your dog's coat, you can be doing their hair, painting their toenails or doing a face mask. Make grooming the dog into an excuse for self care and spending time with children.
Step
1
Get the supplies
Make sure you have the right tools to brush your Sheltie Inu 's coat and make it an easy process. Pick up a brush that is designed to manage the undercoat and make sure you have a plan to keep all that hair contained. Once you have the dog supplies you need, focus on the special spa accessories for your children. Pick up some fun face masks or nail polish or let them pick out a treat.
Step
2
Make a date
The best way to ensure brushing the dog's hair doesn't get out of hand is to mark it down in your schedule. Make it a routine that happens at the same time on the same day if possible. When you include it in your schedule, it's easier to stick to it. Making brushing the dog's hair into a special activity with your children will make it all the more important to stick to.
Step
3
Spa time
When you're ready, gather your supplies and start the spa day. Let your child pick out what kind of spa treatment they want while they are brushing the dog. You can put on a face mask before they get started and let it dry as they brush or paint toes as the dog is being treated to their own spa day. It's a special time for everyone.

Dog treats
Activity description
Sheltie Inus are noble dogs who often appear to be wise sages.  These pups are smart and enjoy learning new tricks just as much as they enjoy running around. Keeping their minds busy is an important part of owning one of these dogs. They need mental stimulation to keep them from getting into trouble. Learning to bow is one of the most fun activities for Sheltie Inus because it will challenge them and let them show off their proud and proper personalities. This trick is fairly easy to teach. You can work with your dog for 15 minutes before breakfast or dinner for several days, and they learn this trick quickly.
Step
1
Head down
The first step is to get your dog to understand the motion you want them to perform. Start by holding a treat in your fingers and placing it right by their nose. Make sure they stay standing and slowly guide the treat to the ground between their legs. When they reach their head down between their legs, give them the treat.
Step
2
The bow
Once they understand you want them to move their head down without sitting or laying down, start to move the treat back so they get into the bow position. Move the treat slowly until their front legs are fully stretched in a bow and give them a treat. Start to speed up your motion with the treat so it's a smooth movement.
Step
3
Introduce the command
Now that your pup understands the motion, start to say "bow" before you give them the treat. After several days of practice, say "bow" right before you bring the treat from their nose to the ground. They should start to understand that "bow" means bring my head between my paws. Test them out by giving the command without showing them the treat. When they perform the motion, give them lots of praise and treats!

Activity description
Activities for Sheltie Inus must include time to run and burn off energy. Though these dogs have a moderate energy level, they can't be left inside all day or they will get themselves into trouble. Luckily, these dogs make excellent running partners for people who like to get out and jog a few miles several times per week. These dogs are steady running companions and will enjoy spending time with you out on the trail or path. Make sure you ease them into a routine so they can get in shape safely, without any injuries.
Step
1
Loose leash
There is nothing worse than a running companion who is pulling on the leash the entire time, or stopping mid-run to smell the flowers. Take some time to teach your dog how to walk on a loose leash and slowly transition to running. Your dog should know how to stay right with you throughout your entire run. No pulling or lagging behind.
Step
2
Walk to run
Even though your dog might be able to run three miles off the couch, it doesn't mean it's best for them. Just like you, they need to ease into running to make sure they don't get hurt. You can start by going for long walks and incorporate a few minutes of running at a time. Slowly increase the minutes you run over a few weeks until your dog is comfortable running one or two miles in a row.
Step
3
Keep it up
Once you have your dog in running shape, make sure you stick to a routine so the both of you stay fit and healthy. You can put it on the calendar or set a goal to up the mileage you're currently running per week. Your dog will be the best motivator because they will always be ready to run and will never cancel on you.
