Introduction

It can be challenging to find a puppy you can pamper, carry, cuddle, and can be a lapdog in every sense of the word. Fortunately, when you adopt a Silky Terrier and Bichon Frise dog known as a Silkchon, that’s what you’ll get. This small, fluffy, and adorable breed is one that will delight all manner of owners. You can spoil them rotten with attention, treat them to various outings, or leave them to their own devices at home. They are a very versatile dog that will love to do what you do as long as you stay with them.

Silkchons love spending time with you, but they also enjoy play sessions with other dogs as well. If they can combine the two loves, then that’s even better! That’s why playdates in any weather make an excellent free activity for you and your furry companion. You can catch up over a cuppa with an old friend, while your dogs can play together nicely – either inside or outside, weather dependent. You can also bring along a toy for them to share, and introduce them carefully on a leash. After an hour of play, you can then return home knowing their play meter is at capacity.

Step
1
Find a friend
While there’s no denying you’ve probably got quite a few friends with dogs, it can be a challenge to match yours up with another. Given the small size of a Silkchon, with females smaller than males, it’s safer to match them up with a dog of similar stature. A similar energy level may also be helpful to ensure they are both on even footing when they get their play time underway.
Step
2
Introduce and monitor
Not every dog takes to others right away. That doesn’t mean they never will, but you have to put a little bit more effort into the ‘meet and greet’ session. If your doggo takes a while to warm up to other dogs, then make sure you keep them on their leash. Walk them alongside the other dog before they meet, then slowly let them smell each other’s scents. You can then read their body language to determine whether they are okay to play with each other.
Step
3
Play
Now that your dog appears to be friendly with your friend’s puppy, you can then let them off the leash and introduce the toy. Enjoy a cup of tea with a friend, supervise your dog’s fun either indoors or outdoors, then go home entirely happy with how things played out!

Activity description

If you are looking for a fun sunny-day activity that doesn’t require you to get your purse out, then make sure you include a trip to a dog park on your agenda. Dog parks can be very beneficial for dogs who may struggle with boredom or love to be social – such as your Silkchon. While you do need to put them in an enclosure with dogs of the same size, this is a simple activity that’s bound to be fun for both you and your four-legged companion. Once you’ve set an hour aside, all you need to do is gather a leash, toy, and doggy waste bag and head to the park.

Step
1
Choose a park
Unfortunately, not every dog park in the United States is going to be up to the correct standards. Some fall into disrepair, while others have inadequate fencing or don’t separate the dogs in pens by size. Given how small your Silkchon is, it’s crucial to have access to a fully-fenced and Fort Knox-like enclosure with dogs of the same size.
Step
2
Play
Once you have inspected the enclosure and determined that it’s safe for your puppy, you can now let them in (on their leash) to work out their surroundings. Let them meet other dogs, smell the fencing and other areas, and familiarize themselves with the territory. Once they are calm and happy to play, you can then unclip their leash, give them their toy, then supervise their fun.

Activity description

You are not going to have beautiful weather year-round, which means that dog park trips and walks are not always going to be an option – not unless you plan on getting drenched! Therefore, you need to have a dog entertainment plan B. Plan B can include a toy basket full of goodies to entertain them all day. It can consist of long-lasting bully sticks, rawhide, dental chews, and non-edible items such as balls, bones, and squeaky toys. Having a basket of toys at the ready means that you’re always going to have a simple, affordable and perfect rainy-day activity up your sleeve.

Step
1
Choose toys
When the time comes to select toys for your Silkchon’s toy basket, you need to put a bit of thought into the process. You don’t want them to bore easily, so include plenty of long-lasting toys that will take them a while to destroy, as well as larger items they can carry around the house. The goal is to keep them as happy and stimulated as possible.
Step
2
Supervise
Having a toy basket laden with goodies is an excellent rainy-day activity, but you still need to supervise them. While you’re curled up on the couch with a book, keep an eye on your Silkchon nearby. They have surprisingly sharp teeth which means it can often not take them long to penetrate a rubber ball or similar toy.

Walk

Silkchons don’t require a lot of physical activity, but two 25 to 30-minute walks per day can often be enough to satisfy their requirements. You can head out in the early morning if the weather allows, then again in the afternoon if your dog’s energy levels are through the roof. The best part about a walk is that it’s a versatile and easy option for any owner – young or old.

Car Ride

As most Silky Terrier or Bichon Frise owners will know, a car ride is a fun activity that dogs adore. The next time you need to head out to the store or go for a Sunday drive, don’t forget to bring your Silkchon along. They will love being a part of the action with you.

Conclusion

A Silkchon makes the perfect lap dog, especially if you want a dog that will love and adore you. However, you still need to make sure you provide them with plenty of physical activity above and beyond the mental stimulation you provide. Try any of these activities above, and you’re sure to find your furry friend has the time of their life!Â
