Because the Jafox is a new breed, they do not have a history yet.
Therefore, the histories of the Japanese Chin and the Toy Fox Terrier will be
used for this purpose. The Japanese Chin is a tiny dog that originated in Japan
during the ancient times but their exact history is not completely clear. Some
say they were brought to Japan by a Buddhist teacher in 520 A.D. while others
believe the little dogs were given to the Emperor of Japan by the Chinese
Emperor in 1000 A.D. Another story is that they were bred in Korea and brought
over from there about 1,500 years ago. Whichever story you choose to believe,
all agree that the Japanese Chin was revered by the Japanese people and treated
as royalty. Until 1977, they were still known as the Japanese Spaniel and are
thought to be a mix of the Pekingese and the Pug. They were popular with
royalty and were given to Queen Victoria, Princess Catherine of Braganza, and
even to Franklin Pierce when he was the 15th President of the United
States. The breed was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1888
and is the 108th most popular breed of dog. The Toy Fox Terrier was
created in the United States in the 19th century to hunt rats and
mice but ended up being even better at hunting foxes. Due to their small size,
they were able to get into the fox holes and flush out the foxes for the
hunters. They were bred from the Smooth Fox Terrier, Chihuahua, Miniature
Pinscher, and Manchester Terrier. They became popular in the United States in
the late 1990s and were accepted into the American Kennel Club in 2003 where
they are the 116th most popular dog breed.
