Christmas in the Gardens

It is the most wonderful time of the year!  Amarillo Botanical Gardens is all dressed in its holiday best and hopes you and the whole family to come and visit every Thursday through Sunday from 6::00 pm to 8:30 pm. This extravaganza lasts all the way through December! A well-behaved, leashed Fido and Fifi are welcome to join you for the fun  (please be courteous to the other visitors and the Gardens and pick up after your pet). Take a leisurely stroll through the Gardens while you take in the multitude of brightly colored blinking, flashing and animated lights that surround you! This family-friendly event is free to the public but donations are gladly accepted.  The Amarillo Botanical Gardens are located at 1400 Streit Drive.  Happy Pawlidays!

Christmas Balloon Glow in Palo Duro Canyon

Imagine a brisk winter's night surrounded by your loved ones (even the furry ones). Now look up - dozens of brightly colored hot air balloons are gently floating in the Texas sky as you sip hot cocoa and snap lots of pics. This is what goes on at the Christmas Balloon Glow in Palo Duro Canyon! You will be serenaded by local high school choirs - and did we mention Santa will be there too! Yes, Santa will be there to gather up all your last minute Christmas wish lists and pose with the kiddies. There is free admission to the park after 4 pm with the donation of a non-perishable food item to benefit the High Plains Food Bank. Sounds like a pawfect night to us!

Cadillac Ranch

Get your kicks off Route 66! This public art installation is famous the world around. Bring your whole family, furry and non-furry, and head down historic Route 66 to 13651 Frontage Road and marvel at 10 Cadillacs buried nose down in the dirt! Make sure your pup is on his leash for his safety. Don't forget your spray paint! Travelers that have visited this landmark have been adding their own personal "art" to the caddies for decades - so why not join in the fun? Make sure to get plenty of pictures of this very cool, totally odd piece of Americana!

Palo Duro Canyon State Park

Palo Duro Canyon State Park first opened in 1934 and has been a much-loved destination ever since! Bring the whole family (including Fido or Fifo on a leash and under your supervision at all times) and explore the country's second largest canyon, next to the Grand Canyon, of course. This earthly wonder was formed by simple water erosion - it's amazing what a heck of a lot of time can do!  The canyon is 120 miles long, 20 miles wide and is 800 feet deep. You can drive through the bottom of the canyon via their 16-mile scenic roadway or hike the trails with your family and your furry friend. Be sure you stay hydrated (Fido and Fifi too) and that you don't over-do it - it gets hot, hot, hot during the summer!
