In 2002, the organization completely up-and-moved to a large and better-equipped facility offering 12,000 square feet of space dedicated to animal care and adoption. HSCC primarily serves the area's dogs and cats, but welcomes and cares for the occasional rabbit, ferret, and other small rodents!
Animals taking refuge at the rescue's facility receive complete veterinary care, vaccinations, and a spay/neuter surgery. Each and every animal is accepted, regardless of size, breed, or behavioral/health issues and will never be euthanized to make space. The animal welfare organization has pledged to serve the two and four-legged citizens of Chittenden County with a commitment to compassion, prevention, intervention, and education.
Their dedicated efforts strengthen the local community through programs and services including pet adoptions, education and outreach programs, dog training, low-cost spay/neuter clinics, low-cost microchipping, animal fostering, animal cruelty response, lost and found pet reporting, and many more. They even operate a Good Neighbor program as a resource for pet owners in times of crisis or transition, offering free and confidential care for their beloved animals until they are in a better place. In 2016 alone, the Humane Society of Chittenden County took in 1,017 animals in need and continue to work tirelessly every day to get the animals in their care into permanent, loving homes!
For more than twenty years, the Humane Society of Chittenden County has spearheaded this giant celebration and fundraiser in support of their lifesaving work! Taking place at Veterans Memorial Park in South Burlington, the dog-centered day features a one-mile walk through the park, the 5K Doggie Fun Run, music, snacks, contests, and fun activities for the whole family! Leashed, vaccinated dogs are cordially invited to join you for the walk, run, and festivities. Thanks to the generosity of the event sponsors, every penny raised directly benefits the shelter's mission and the 1,000+ animals they care for each year. Registration for the 5K includes a bib, doggie bandana, runner goodie bag, t-shirt, and more! Invite all of your two and four-legged friends out for a day of moving their paws for a great cause!
Bark & Brew is a dog-friendly craft beer tasting series that spans the course of 7 weeks every August and September. Hosted and organized by the Humane Society of Chittenden County, the event benefits their mission to provide compassionate care for the area's animals in need. Each Thursday during the 7-week series, dog lovers and beer lovers alike gather to enjoy Bark & Brew. Bring your canine companion along to romp around in the shelter's play yard and mingle with puppy pals while you sip on a local craft brew and enjoy tasty snacks! The event is $20 a person ($5 for those under 21) and each week features a different Vermont brewery.
