If a dog in Castle Hills is ever unlucky enough to suffer abuse, neglect, or abandonment, there’s no shortage of animal welfare groups ready to ride to the rescue.
The San Antonio Humane Society is one of them. This non-profit, no-kill organization has been protecting the animals of Bexar County and surrounding areas since 1952, and each year it provides shelter, care, treatment, and rehabilitation to approximately 5,000 animals.
The society’s mission is simple: to protect and improve the lives of dogs and cats. To do this it provides shelter and essential medical treatment to animals in need, adoption services to help those animals find forever homes, spay and neuter programs to reduce pet overpopulation, and community education. However, as it is not affiliated with any national humane associations or organizations, the San Antonio Humane Society relies on the generous support of individuals and corporate donors to continue saving lives.
Animal Defense League of Texas (ADL) is another local rescue group committed to providing essential care to the animals that need it most. Since 1954, this no-kill shelter has been giving abandoned, abused, or neglected dogs and cats a second chance at life. As well as providing medical care, spaying and neutering, shelter, and attention to each animal in its care, ADL also works to find the best possible home for each pet.
Under the direction of a volunteer board, ADL relies on community contributions to help animals in need. If you’d like to volunteer your time, become a foster carer or make a donation, this is one organization well worth supporting.
