Give a Wag! Gives to Charlottesville Shelters

Run almost entirely by volunteers, Animal Connections is a no-kill rescue network that firmly believes in the foster to adoption path. They are diligent about posting in-depth profiles of all of the dogs available for adoption, including their background, strengths, and areas needing improvement. Animal Connections provides a lot of supplementary assistance to the dominant shelter in Charlottesville, the CASPCA.

Serving all of Albemarle County is a big feat, but the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA (CASPCA) manages beautifully in this mountain town. They rehome hundreds of pets each year and host a number of community events to raise awareness and funds. Community programs include the Barn Cat Project and the Angel Adoption Project, under which adoption fees are waived in order provide homes to special needs or antisocial animals. CASPCA also hosts a vibrant junior volunteer program, providing young adults with meaningful work experience.

As Charlottesville is a small college mountain town, CASPCA is the dominating shelter for the community. In the same breath, residents find that living amongst nature does not come without its challenges. Often woodland creatures wander into town or are found by our own furry friends, and are injured. Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary is a rehabilitation and rescue center sheltering all exotic and wild animals needing a helping hand in the local area. RWS provides instructions on how to rescue an animal if found out of hours of operation.
