One of the largest organizations, the Humane Educational Society, functions to provide a safe haven for homeless, abused, and neglected animals in the Chatt community. Not only do they shelter pups, they facilitate adoption, host fundraising events, provide affordable medical services, and care for all neglected doggos in the area! Since their establishment in 1910, the organization has worked to take in and re-home about 4,000 pets every year.
Chattanooga is also home to the Pet Placement Center, the oldest no-kill shelter in the city. Beginning as the Humane Animal League, the organization survives solely off of donations and fundraising activities. This private adoption center works to facilitate adoptions, house neglected and injured animals, and create volunteer opportunities for foster families.
