Serving Concord and surrounding towns, the Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus County seeks to alleviate animal homelessness in the area. While the HSCCGCC shelter focuses primarily on public advocacy and rescue, they also have initiatives that reunite lost animals with their owners and offer free pet food to low-income households through a food pantry. This shelter also hosts several fundraising events throughout the year, like the Whisker Whirl Masquerade Ball.
Operating as the official shelter of the municipality, Cabarrus County Animal Shelter performs several different roles for the Concord community. Cabarrus County Animal Care and Control Department facilitates investigating instances of abuse while taking in animals that are stray, abandoned, or surrendered. This open admission shelter sees hundreds come through its doors each year in addition to the lost animals it receives to be quarantined temporarily. This shelter partners with both local shelters and national programs like Spay It Forward! in order to promote a community without unnecessary euthanasia.
Cabarrus Pet Society is a small, organic nonprofit run by a dedicated group of volunteers and a foster network. This shelter is always seeking out new fosters in order to provide vulnerable breeds and cases with extra love and care. They also provide the public with loads of informational content on training, adoption procedures, and identifying behavioral problems. When they are not finding pets their forever home, CPS is planning their wildly popular fundraiser, Pars for Paws, an annual golf tournament event!
