Give a Wag! Gives to Erie Shelters

Because You Care, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit rescue and adoption organization that is dedicated to saving, treating and placing all stray and abandoned pets in the area. They have been serving the Erie community with excellence since 1981. There is no physical shelter at BYC. All pets stay with loving foster families while they wait for their forever homes. This gives the foster family much needed time to acclimatize the dog to life in a caring household, with a schedule and socialization with other people and animals. The foster parent can really get to know their foster pet's true personality, likes and dislikes, favorite toys or any behavior issues. When potential adoptive parents have questions, the foster parents will have the answers.

BYC spays and neuters all of their incoming pets in an effort to curtail the pet overpopulation.

The dogs that enter into Because You Care often come from neglectful or abusive homes.  By opening your home to another soul that has the capacity to love his human beyond limits - you are telling that animal that they matter. If you are ready to make this commitment and change an abused animal's life forever, please contact the shelter and staff at BYC. There are so many pets waiting for their second chance.

Before your potential adoption is final, the pet will receive all necessary medical care and someone from the staff of BYC will perform a few home visits. This is necessary to make sure your home environment is safe and suitable for a new addition and for them to be sure the dog you want to adopt is the right dog for you and your family.

If you would like to volunteer at the rescue or become a potential foster family, contact Because You Care's staff. They will be grateful for your assistance. If you are able to make a donation of cleaning supplies, food, toys, treats and other necessary items, or a monetary donation, again the rescue will be grateful for whatever you can give. Loving animals is easy; being their voice and advocating for their safety and lives is much more difficult and time-consuming. Please do what you can for the love of animals all over the world.
