SPCA of Tompkins county uses several outlets to find animals new homes: adopting from their own facilities, an annexe in the mall, at the local PetSmart, and online. They work with Petango.com, who is partnered with over 1800 animal welfare organizations in the US and Canada, providing the first online pet search with real-time updates of adoptable animals in shelters. The SPCA of Tompkins County works within the community to promote responsible pet stewardship through education, training and counselling, all to strengthen the human-animal bond.
Cayuga Dog Rescue is a nonprofit organization founded in July of 2005 aimed at rescuing stray, abandoned, and neglected dogs in addition to taking in dogs scheduled for euthanasia or who are deteriorating in regional shelters. Rescued dogs are placed in foster care by the organization, where they receive veterinary care as well as emotional, social, and physical rehabilitation before they are adopted into new, loving homes. The Cayuga Dog Rescue is committed to finding every dog they take in a forever home, offering support and consultations for the life of the adopted dog.
