Give a Wag! Gives to Leon Valley Shelters

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated”. It’s an accurate statement and one that applies to states, cities, and towns just as much as it does to entire countries.

Happily, when animals in Leon Valley and the greater San Antonio area need help, there are plenty of wonderful animal welfare groups ready to save the day. The San Antonio Humane Society is one of them. This non-profit, no-kill organization has been helping at-risk animals from Bexar County and nearby areas since 1952. It provides shelter, treatment, and rehabilitation to more than 5,000 animals each year, and also runs an adoption program, spay and neuter services, and community education.

The San Antonio Humane Society’s mission is to protect and improve the lives of dogs and cats. However, it doesn’t receive any regular support from national humane associations or animal welfare organizations, so it relies on donations and volunteers from the local community to continue pursuing this mission.

San Antonio Pets Alive! also boasts an unwavering commitment to helping San Antonio’s at-risk animals. This organization specializes in rescuing dogs and cats selected for euthanasia at the San Antonio City Shelter. With a vision to one day make San Antonio a no-kill community, the group has saved the lives of more than 38,000 animals since 2012.

If you’d like to make a donation or join San Antonio Pets Alive! and its team of more than 700 volunteers, visit the organization’s website for more information.
