Give a Wag! Gives to Minneapolis Shelters

According to many different polls, sites, and studies, Minneapolis is actually one of the top-ten most dog-friendly cities in the United States! Not only do they have tons of dog-friendly hotels, accommodations, restaurants, bars, and pup events, they also have dozens of pup activist groups, organizations, no-kill shelters, and non-profits!

One of the most popular groups in Minneapolis is the Ruff Start Rescue. This group is run by dedicated and passionate volunteers who work tirelessly to rescue abandoned, stray, and homeless pets. What's unique about this group is that they choose not to have a physical shelter, instead only promoting foster-based care for pups on the belief that it's a more desirable environment for pooches. Though the number of pets they're able to take in is limited, they've been able to help hundreds of pets in the area since their inception in 2010.

There are dozens of other groups as well that help pups find homes, foster families, and receive medical treatment. Midwest Animal Rescue, Secondhand Hounds, and Pet Project Rescue are all organizations that put pups first, running off volunteer staff and donations to help house doggos in the area.

Minneapolis may be one of the best cities for puppy parks in the United States. A smattering of dog parks are peppered throughout the city, offering basic, run-of-the-mill open spaces to unique puppy paradises.

One of the best parks for your pup is Lake of the Isles. It's completely fenced, so your pooch can prance around off-leash, and it offers separate sections for big and small dogs.

Another park, the Franklin Terrace off-leash dog park, is perfect for the pooch who wants to zoom around for hours. With plenty of space, secure fences, and lots of other pups, this popular spot is perfect for your pooch.

Other parks like Minnehaha, St. Anthony Parkway, and Victory Prairie are also good options. Remember, before you take your pup to off-leash parks, you must obtain a permit!

Is your pup a film buff? This unique and fairly new event takes place during the Summer in the city and replaces the famous cat video festival that's typically hosted every year. Year-round, you can submit footage of your pup to see if they have what it takes to be part of the 40-minute film that airs in the summer at Target Field Station. Don't miss the chance to see pooches - possibly yours - make their debut on the big screen!

One of the best features of dog-friendly culture in Minneapolis is the hundreds of spots you can take your pup to chow down with you. The list is essentially endless. One of the most popular, Psycho Suzi's motor lounge, lets you and your pooch eat on their quaint-but-kitchy doggie patio. Another popular spot, Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery also encourages you to bring Fido down to enjoy some brews and grub!

Other spots, like Riverview Wine Bar, Nomad World Pub, and Colossal Cafe are also lauded for their extra-dog-friendly-vibes.
