Give a Wag! Gives to Murrieta Shelters

The Animal Friends of the Valley provide a secure place for lost and mistreated dogs to recuperate or find their way home. Their motto “shelter pets are head and tail above the rest” tells a tale of dedication to helping dogs have a better life. Under an arrangement with the city, they also carry out animal control services and spay/neutering programs.

Animal officers are caretakers of the city investigating animal cruelty and in some cases teaching pet parents how to care for their dogs. They also rescue sick, stray and injured animals. Seniors “Pet Day” is a caring event. Volunteers can sign on to lift the spirits of older folk in care homes with their dogs. Every second Monday, seniors get to share a paw-inspiring moment with man's most precious friend. Huey’s Heroes Reading program is another amazing event. People of all ages get to read to dogs in need of love and companionship. Those who are learning or just love to read spend quality time with shelter dogs that lap up every word. This is a wonderful way to socialize shy dogs so they can be placed in a permanent home.

The shelter was founded in 1987 and is run by an efficient team and volunteers also on board. They are open five days a week from 10 am to 4 pm and are a non-profit organization. AFV is a premier shelter with a mission of compassion and respect for all dogs. Their future vision is to see an end to homeless animals in Murrieta, CA.
