Give a Wag! Gives to North Little Rock Shelters

North Little Rock, Arkansas is home to 62,000 souls and their furry, little paw people. You can explore the Arkansas River Trail, the USS Razorback submarine and visit the Old Mill (which was featured in the opening scenes of “Gone with the Wind” and thought to be the last surviving structure filmed for the movie). Arkansas is known as the Nature State for good reason. There is so much beauty for you to get out and see!

Among the hundreds of animal welfare shelters and rescues in the area, Rock City Rescue is among the finest. Their mission statement indicates they rescue animals from abusive, endangering or neglectful situations or those in fear of imminent euthanasia, to provide them essential veterinarian care and loving foster homes until they find their lifetime home. In addition to this, the shelter also endeavors to engage and educate the community about animal cruelty and neglect while highlighting the importance of spaying and neutering your pets.

If you are thinking of volunteering some where, or you would like to make a donation, please keep this honorable shelter in your mind! They could always use some help.

#1 The Original ScoopDog

The original ScoopDog consisted of a simple hot dog cart that offered freshly made custard. Today the menu has expanded and it honors all things dog, hot dogs that is – sorry Fido.  They have, however, named their frozen treats after some of our favorite furry breeds; you can try the Good Ole’ Beagle, the Standard Poodle, the Golden Retriever, the Chocolate Lab or the Dignified Chow Chow. They offer multiple varieties of all beef hotdogs, nachos and their infamous frozen custard. Fido is welcome to sit with you in the outdoor seating area.  Oh, the heavenly aroma that will fill Fido’s snoot, and if you just so happen to “drop” a morsel by snack-cident, your furry pal will gladly clean it up for you.

#2 Annual Reigning Cats and Dogs

This event is sponsored by the Humane Society of Pulaski County and is the largest fundraising gala of the year.  There will be a live silent auction, complimentary appetizers as well as beer and wine. And what self-respecting gala can indeed call itself a “gala” without a red carpet? We can do you one better; be prepared for exciting red carpet entrances from some very furry, four-legged (and sometimes three-legged) special guests of honor from the shelter. Any and all proceeds earned will go toward the emergency medical fund set up to assist the shelter’s animals with much need life-sustaining veterinarian care.

#3 Rosemont Inn & Cottages

Humans and their best furry buddies can relax and unwind in any number of their available cottages and bed-and-breakfast rooms. Three of the cottages have first-floor entry to accommodate older dogs who can’t do stairs - a very kind provision. The Gardener’s Cottage has a balcony porch complete with a locking gate so your pup can get some fresh air but not escape the porch itself. The Hayward and Barkley cottages are designed specifically with the larger breed dogs in mind; oversized beds and extra walking room are a staple in each cottage. Pup parents give the Rosemont Inn & Cottages 5 out of 5 bones.
