The Marin Humane Society Animal Shelter located in the historical City of Novato, CA is a place of compassion and care. The shelter was formed in 1907 by Ethel H Tompkins, an avid animal lover who recognized the need for a shelter where all four-legged creatures could be treated with kindness and respect.
Today, the shelter is a super busy place, with the “Pet Care Assistance” program helping low-income seniors feed, walk and even board their dog. The Jumping for Joy program takes kids with autism on a six-week class where they get to work with dogs on an agility course. Volunteers and their dogs also visit care centers in the community, taking their dogs to bring a little joy to the residents.
Some of the campus dogs go to schools, where kids learn how to greet a dog. They also learn about pet first aid, dog safety in the car plus they can take photos of their new canine companions and post them online. If that’s not a pawtastic time for kids and dogs in itself, they finally learn about pet care then watch the dogs sniffing out something hidden in the classroom. This is a wonderful way to teach children how to care for and love a dog from a very early age.
The Marin Humane Society or campus as they are often called help thousands of animals per year and are situated at 171 Bel Marin Keys Boulevard, Novato, CA. Their vision is a humane world for every animal.
