Give a Wag! Gives to Peabody Shelters

The city of Peabody is located in Essex County near Salem, known for the famous witch trials. The community is served by the Northeast Animal Shelter, located just minutes away in Salem, Massachusetts.

Established in 1976, this is one of the largest shelters in New England, placing over 125,000 cats and dogs since opening. The shelter participates in the Saving Homeless Pets Across America program in which they bring pets from parts of the country with serious animal overpopulation problems to find the animals appropriate homes. In 2015, they saved over 1200 adult dogs and nearly 1500 puppies, placing them into fur-ever homes. The shelter provides a range of positive programs for dogs and humans, including behavior training, socialization opportunities, and medical attention.

The Foster Care program gives animals the special attention they need to overcome challenges with behavior or health. There is a Senior Visits Program in which the dogs visit nursing homes for a day of comfort and companionship, nurturing the hearts of hound and human. The Boo Rich Humane Education Program teaches children to be responsible and compassionate pet owners. The Shelter offers outreach education programs in schools.

To promote future volunteerism and care of animals, you can plan a birthday party at the shelter. Most of the children bring gifts to the dogs at the shelter. The cadre of trained volunteers provide services from reception to dog training and animal husbandry.
