Pompano Beach may be best known for its beaches, marinas, and nearby dive sites, but this idyllic location is also a great area for dog lovers. Not only are there plenty of dog-friendly attractions and experiences, but there are also plenty of inspiring animal rescue organizations that work tirelessly to save the lives of homeless animals.
The Florida Humane Society is an excellent example. This non-profit, no-kill organization serves the needs of animals in Broward and Palm Beach Counties and all of South Florida. As a primary adoption facility, the society rescues companion animals from animal control and from owners who can no longer care for them. Founded in 1993, it spays/neuters around 3,500 animals and helps around 2,800 furry friends find new forever homes each year!
This volunteer-based organization is not affiliated with any other humane organization and doesn’t receive any government funding. As a result, it relies 100 percent on donations and the generosity of the community to be able to continue saving lives.
Everglades Angels Dog Rescue is another paw-some group that pulls out all the stops to help canines who need it most. The group’s mission is to end the suffering of thousands of abandoned pet, feral, and breeding packs of dogs in the Everglades. To do this, it rescues dogs from rural and remote areas of Florida, giving them the medical treatment, psychological support, and training they need to be placed in loving forever homes.
This all-volunteer non-profit is always on the lookout for more volunteers and donations, so feel free to lend a helping paw if you can.
