The event is run to benefit Canine Companions for Independence, a non-profit which trains assistance dogs for people with disabilities, so it’s all in aid of a very good cause.

Held in March, Old Sacramento’s Mardi Paws festival is headlined by a Mardi Gras-themed parade with dogs in costumes, on floats, and boasting all kinds of weird and wonderful outfits. A New Orleans-style marching band leads the pack, and the parade is followed by a vendor fair, plenty of food and drink, and the chance to support the Front Street Animal Shelter.
