Boo Bark: Party at the Park
As the only Halloween party just for dogs in the Springfield, Illinois, area, Boo Bark: Party at the Park is a can't-miss event for all pooches and their people! Head over to the Stuart Park Dog Run for an afternoon filled with fun games and activities just for dogs.
Sign your dog up for the costume contest where you can win great prizes, watch pet demonstrations, and enjoy pet-friendly crafts. Don’t forget to shop through the pet-related vendor booths and get some concessions! There will be kids’ activities as well.
Admission is $3 for one dog and $5 for two. Each adult is allowed only two dogs. The first 100 lucky pups to enter will receive a doggie bag full of treats, so come early!

Jaycees Dog Pageant
Each July, Parkway Vet Clinic sponsors Springfield’s Jaycees Dog Pageant. Sign your pooch up for the pageant and try to win prizes for Most Patriotic, Most Glamorous, and Most Adorable, as well as many more categories! Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place overall.
Registration starts at 11 am and the pageant will begin at 11:30 on the main stage in downtown Springfield. The event is part of the Capital City Celebration.
Tickets start at $10 with each additional dog costing another $5. All proceeds benefit the Animal Protective League. Watching the event is free for the public, some come on down and see!

Halloween at the Market
As part of Springfield’s annual Halloween celebration, a dog costume contest is held during Halloween at the Market event. Dress your dog up in an amazing costume for a chance to win pawsome prizes! During the event, you can also browse through vendor booths, participate in fun activities for the whole family, and listen to guest speakers.
The contests take place on the stage at the intersection of 4th and Adams Streets. All activities for children will be in the US Bank parking lot.
The event is free to attend and runs from 9:30 am to noon, as the final event from the Market Season.

Day of the Dog Run, Walk, or Jog 5k and 10k
In honor of National Dog Day each August, Springfield residents are invited to participate in the Day of the Dog Run, Walk, or Jog 5k and 10k races. As an informal race, participants are asked to select a day and time that works best for them in the week following National Dog Day to complete their run with their dog for charity.
Celebrate your pupper by getting out and running one of these races and timing it yourself! Each participant will receive a Day of the Dog Run medal and a dog tag for your pooch. Report your finishing time to Moon Joggers, the hosts of the event.
All registrants will be required to pay an $18 fee. At least 15 percent of this fee will go to a dog-related charity!

Ani-Mall Pet Expo
Each year in April, the Orr Building at the Illinois State Fairgrounds sets up for a day full of animals! Bring your pooch out to browse through great animal products from local vendors and participate in some “paws” on activities. There will even be demonstrations from local trainers, law enforcement, and more during the event!
Local shelters will be at the event with adoptable pets looking for new homes, so this is a great time to find a new friend or introduce your current pups to potential new pets.
The event is free for children under 12 and only $3 for anyone 13 and over. The event runs from 10 until 2.
Only well-behaved, leashed pets will be allowed to participate.
