Striving to strengthen the local community, they promote and perform spay/neuters to help reduce the homeless animal population and offer assistance with care to pets of low-income families and others in need. In 2015, the Routt County Humane Society assumed all responsibilities of the Steamboat Springs Animal Shelter, formerly managed by the Steamboat Springs Police Department, transforming the county's only shelter from a holding facility to a compassionate, engaged facility and resource for animals in need and the citizens of Routt County!
The humane society operates a full-service adoption center, provides medical treatment on site, offers low-cost spay/neuter clinics, and runs a volunteer and foster program. It is a group effort to carry out all of these important and life-saving services and it could not be done without the support and engagement of volunteers! The citizens of the local community care about the animals in need and wish to provide them with forever homes and the best lives they can have! In fact, Dog Fancy Magazine designated Steamboat Springs as Dogtown USA, donating to the Routt County Humane Society in support of their compassionate efforts.
This hardworking animal rescue welcomes any animal in need with open arms, loving care, and a chance at a new beginning.
