Give a Wag! Gives to Tucson Shelters

Tucson, Arizona is rapidly becoming one of the hottest dog spots in the state. Consistently, the city is adding not only puppy parks and hikes open to dogs, but doggie brunch spots, stores for your pooch, and restaurants that encourage you to bring your four-legged BFF.

The high number of animal shelters that exist in the area is encouraging the overall dog friendliness, as well!

HOPE Animal Shelter, the first no-kill shelter for dogs and cats in Tuscon, got its start in 2006. This establishment believes that animals deserve exactly what their shelter is called - Hope! The organization runs a no-kill, cage-free haven for abandoned animals while they await their new, fur-ever homes! They also provide them with medical care, socialization, and compassion.

Tucson isn't lacking for pet rescue organizations, though. Other organizations like Ruff Rescue Tuscon, The Humane Society of Southern Arizona, and Pima Paws for Life all offer pups - and cats, too - second-chances at life by providing them with medical care, a place to live comfurrtably off the streets, fostering opportunities, and compassion.

Even if October is over, Dogtober is never over. Every November, Handi-Dogs puts on a canine carnival that caters to the pooches - okay, okay, their humans can come, too. This festival features games, contests, raffles, vendors, live bands, food, a beer garden, and so much more!  Handi-Dogs asks that you only bring well behaved, polite pooches and keep your buddies leashed. All proceeds from this event will benefit Handi-Dogs, a  nonprofit organization that helps people with disabilities improve their quality of life and independence by teaching them how to train their own dogs to be service dogs. #5 Puppy Parks

If Tuscon didn't seem dog-friendly enough with their long list of pup-events, they've gone ahead and added a handful of dog parks and playgrounds for you and your pooch!  The Star Valley Dog Park and the Palo Verde Dog Park are both popular spots among the local pups, providing you and your pooch with plenty of space to run around and relax in the shade. If you and your pup are looking for something a little out of the ordinary, we recommend Smiling Dog Ranch at George Mehl Foothills park. Not only is it located right next to the Rillito River Park Trail, it's also a big, roomy, off-leash park with shaded trees and size dividers for pups. You'll get pretty views, and a paw-sitively pleased pooch.
