When you think of California, do you only think about LA? Because although LA is amazing, it’s not nearly as beautiful as Ventura CA. Ventura is known to be one of America’s most livable communities, located between Malibu and Santa Barbara—which means there’s a lot of beautiful water to look at! Ventura is very community-orientated and offers tax-deductible donation opportunities to benefit the community’s parks, historic properties, and programs for everyone to enjoy.
Ventura also loves its furry citizens and has a great shelter for dogs, who can also enjoy the beauty of Ventura without having to worry about where they’re going to sleep at night. The Ventura County Animal Services operates two shelters within the county that help pups in any way they can. They have their main shelter in Camarillo, which is home to over 400 pets, and the Simi Valley which houses nearly 40 pets at a time.
Can you believe that VCAS cares for more than 10,000 animals per year? This organization is constantly promoting adoption, reuniting furry friends with their families, caring for strays, and taking care of medical needs and vaccinations. This type of compassion is what Ventura is all about - they try to provide a safe and encouraging environment and are very involved with the people and fur friends living in the community. Right now, VCAS has over 171 dogs within their facilities, and although they are cared for, it’d be wonderful if they could have a family to themselves!
Pet-a-Palooza - it’s party time! Bring your hungry pup out to party in the beautiful city of Ventura. Pet-a-Palooza is hosted by Simi Valley Animal Shelter at Theresa’s Country Feed and Pet. It’s an event to raise funding and awareness for the shelter. It’s a wonderful way for your dog to party with other dogs, and for you to potentially add another pup to the famjam! The event itself is free and there are vendors and activities catered just for doggies, so grab a leash and bring your pooch because this will be one party you won’t forget!
Easter time is not just about the bunnies and the chocolate - it’s about EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA! (Try saying that five times fast.) This event is admission-free and open to both the family and fur-family. There will be plenty of things for the kiddies and puppies to do, like face painting, henna tattoos, kids crafts, games, prizes, and more. Guess who else will be there - THE EASTER BUNNY - and also dogs who are up for adoption—with the fee waived! So fill your Easter basket up with doggy treats and see which puppy comes to you first and they’re yours to keep!
Pooch Parade is Ventura’s BIGGEST dog-themed event of the year! This event has been around for over 20 years. It’s a nice way to enjoy a walk with the perks of being able to eat, drink, shop and support homeless dogs who need a home at the same time. This fun event caters to dogs in many ways as well as to people out on a date or a family night. There are tons of prizes to win, music to enjoy, and pooches to support! If interested, please make a donation to support homeless dogs, on their journey to finding a place to call home.
