My name is Kiefer, I'm an enthusiastic animal-lover living and working in San Francisco. I grew up with a pit bull/Great Dane mutt named Bandit and a couple of cats. After Bandit, we adopted a border collie/black lab mix and a greyhound/black lab mix from our local animal shelter. When I moved away for college, I filled my dog void by spending ~10 hr/week at the Humane Society as a senior volunteer; I was responsible for cleaning, feeding, basic agility and training, and off-site socialization and exercise. I've had a great love for dogs since I was a child and miss having them as a constant in my life. I aim to provide your dog with all of my affection and attention!

Woof! My name is Kelly and I can't wait to meet your best friend. I am a mature, responsible paralegal student and I abide by the rule of paw--happiness and fun! I have been a dog owner all my life (which has included training classes) and I am incredibly devoted to the development of positive interaction and relationship building with canines. I am keenly aware of canine communication signals and positive guidance methods in order to further mutual cooperation with the client. I confess to my "happy-goofy" nature with my clients and I am NOT embarrassed to be seen and heard by others using high pitched "happy talk" on a walk! Let's meet!

About Dog Training in San Mateo, CA

Training Fun Fact #1:

Does your dog let off a shrill bark every time the doorbell rings? Could be they think the arrival of a guest needs further announcing than just the sound of the bell. It is possible to train your dog to not make a sound when someone comes to the door. Teaching them to go to place instead of bark at the door is the first step to take toward peace and quiet.

Training Fun Fact #2:

The joy of gardening is a pleasure and a privilege, really, but ideally, something you can call your own. And not your dog’s. As much as dogs adore digging and dirt, a garden without a welcome mat is the best kind for dog owners. Deter your pooch from the garden by adding features like a border, cayenne pepper scent, and even a water feature that works like a moat to keep them away.

Training Fun Fact #3:

Have you ever heard of the Kyi-Leo? This spunky designer pooch has the parentage of the Lhasa Apso and the Maltese. Where does the name fit in? Kyi is the Tibetan word for dog (the Lhasa Apso has the heritage of Tibet), and Leo is the Latin word for lion. The Maltese breed has had the nickname of lion for many years. Their name suits them well; this pup can have the patience of a lion in their temperament.

Average Cost of Dog Training in San Mateo, CA

We bet your pup is barking in excitement over the chance to train. It’s a known fact that dogs are happiest with structure and routine in their lives. Dog training is the way to get that started.

Can you imagine a pooch who happily obeys every training command? Persistence and positivity when training your dog are keys to making it work. Group lessons are one way to accomplish training success. Dogs work in camaraderie with other doggo classmates, and of course, every pup wants to be top of the class. Group lessons in San Mateo typically cost about $200 for courses over 4 to 6 weeks.

Do you have a hectic schedule or travel out of town often for work? Board and train may be the option for you. Pups are sent to the trainer’s home for one on one instruction that can last for a week to a month to even longer. Not everyone wants to be separated from their canine kiddo for that long, but if this type of training seems ideal, expect to pay around $2600 for a 3-week stay.

Some pet parents like to be involved every step of the way when it comes to training their dog. In that case, private in-home lessons are perfect. Pooches learn the ropes right in their home environment, which often makes follow up practicing even more worth it. The cost in San Mateo is around $150 per hour. Sometimes, travel fees will apply.

Are you looking for individual instruction for your dog? Is flexibility important? Look to Wag! for affordable and convenient in-home private dog training. Work with a vetted local trainer keen on teaching your pooch to be obedient in a fun way. At just $60 for a one-hour session, it’s a pawsome deal!

Going Off-Leash in San Mateo, CA

San Mateo is paradise for dogs and owners alike. With so much to do outside, pups are never bored in this town. To enjoy the great outdoors at its best, there are a few rules to follow for dog ownership. While canines must be on a leash when out and about on promenades, San Mateo has many off-leash spaces for dogs to enjoy. Keep your dog healthy and ready to play with other pooches at the park by ensuring they are up to date on vaccines.

One of the great things about San Mateo is that it is near the Shoreline Parks System. Seal Point Park is amidst the fun and has coastal wetlands, marches, and plenty of walkways to see the sights. The off-leash section is pretty big, and there are trails and beaches for your little explorer to investigate.

It doesn’t stop there, though. Plan an adventure to a neighboring city to change the routine. Redwood City has excellent trails for exercising Fido in the fresh air. How about trekking to a waterfall as an afternoon activity? Have your pooch carry the fresh water and snacks in a backpack and head to Coal Creek Open Space. Many of the trail areas run through the forest, making this hike perfect for keeping cool on a sunny day.

Having a well-trained four-legged companion by your side just makes everything better. Dog trainers with Wag! can teach your pup park and trail etiquette so you can bring them on every adventure!

Dog Training in San Mateo, CA

With lots of sand and surf to experience, dogs in San Mateo have a ball at the beach. Does your pooch know how to swim? No doubt, they have a fun pack to run and swim with when shoreside. Be sure your dog knows the rules when at the beach. Work on their obedience skills, so they always come when called if the waves get choppy.

Other pups in San Mateo who love the beach are the Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever. They are well-favored dogs in most of the states in the U.S. and often top the list. Loyal and friendly, these pooches get along with everyone.

Small dogs are a hit in this outdoor getaway, too. They love a walk just as much as their bigger cousins and are eager and keen to train. The Boston Terrier is often seen scouting the trails of the Coyote Point Recreation Area. They are a muscular and compact canine, with strong personalities and independent spirits.

The Chihuahua is a little dynamo that doesn’t like to be left behind. They will ask to be taken on every errand and outing. Sassy and devoted, they do best with plenty of socialization and the chance to play with other dogs often. Free-wheeling and fun, the Chihuahua is a perky canine ready to train!

No matter the breed of pup you own, dog training is an essential part of dog ownership. It’s a fun way to bond with your four-legger, too. Connect with an enthusiastic dog trainer with Wag! to arrange a customized lesson geared towards your dog’s need.
