Growing up, my home had six rescue animals which consisted of dogs, cats, and a rabbit. My initial love for fur balls began when my family picked up my oldest dog, a Jack Russell Terrier who is currently sixteen. After classes, I look forward to reuniting with my boxer mix who was the first canine i self-trained.

“College Student: Service Dog Training Experience”

Hi I’m Kaitlyn and I currently live in the Beverly/Morgan Park area. A little bit of my history: I currently work at Urban Leash as a dog walker and cat sitter, owned 2 cats of my own and have taken a course where I trained a service dog for a semester at my college. My service dog training class has helped me recognize typical and abnormal behaviors in dogs. I owned my tuxedo cat for about 14 years and my tabby for 2 years. I also have beginner language skills in French and Thai.

“Can’t wait to meet your dog”

I worked at a pet care facility, my job responsibility is to watch and observe dogs in play groups like dogs who come for doggy day camp or dog in the play and stay group who come to board over the night or couple days. I also, work with dogs that do not get along with other dogs. I do have experience with cats because we do board cats at my job. I will also do play times with cats and clean out litter boxes. In the kennel I would clean dogs rooms, also wash dishes, help with feeding.

About Dog Training in Chicago, IL

Training Fun Fact #1:

If your dog excels at obedience and agility, try your paw at rally obedience. A rally course includes 10 to 20 rally stations that require pups to perform different commands. In an official rally competition, you’ll navigate the course quickly alongside your dog. How do you get started with training for rally obedience? Begin with one rally sign at a time. Clicker training and positive reinforcement are a great starting point. Keep practicing, and before long, you two will be ready to compete!

Training Fun Fact #2:

Potty training your puppy isn’t exactly a walk in the dog park, but there are a few things you can do to make the process easier. Setting specific times for feedings and potty breaks is fundamental, but remember, accidents happen. If you catch your canine in the act, disrupt them and divert them to their bathroom spot outside. Once they’ve done their business, give them some treats and praise, and they’ll catch on quickly.

Training Fun Fact #3:

Fetching items by name is a cool trick that shouldn’t take much time for Maisie to master. To start, you’ll want to teach your dog to associate a toy with a name. Wiggle the toy in front of your dog’s nose, say the item’s name, and reward your woofer each time they make contact. As your pup progresses, you can add other toys to the mix and ask them to retrieve a specific one. With enough practice, this trick could take only 2 weeks to teach!

Average Cost of Dog Training in Chicago, IL

The cost of dog training in Chicago varies based on the location, type of training, and your dog’s age. You can expect to pay between $100 and $150 per hour for in-home dog training in Chicago. Private training packages that include multiple sessions could set you back up to $1,500 for 12 weeks’ worth of sessions. Some trainers also charge additional fees for travel and mileage, while others may require payment upfront. Private training at a facility typically costs $90 per hour.

On average, group obedience dog training classes in Chicago cost $175 for a 6-week course. Classes meet for one hour each week, which means you might not get as much one-on-one time with the trainer as you’d like. Many obedience classes in Chicago are also tiered, so your dog will need to attend the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels of the course to complete their training.

Group classes may not always accommodate your schedule or your pup’s needs. Looking for a more affordable alternative to in-home training in Chicago? Find a dog trainer on the Wag! app and save up to 40% on Chicago dog training. Team up with your preferred trainer and plan a personalized training session through in-app messaging — all for just $60 per hour.

Going Off-Leash in Chicago, IL

Chi-Town has truly gone to the dogs, with off-leash beaches and dog parks galore. But before you set out for a leash-free frolic, you’ll need to apply for a permit. All dogs playing in Chicago’s off-leash zones are required to have one, or their parents could face a hefty fine! The City of Chicago also explicitly prohibits aggressive dogs from off-leash areas and holds owners responsible for their dogs’ behavior. Establishing a strong foundation of obedience training is important before visiting Chicago’s dog parks. Need some assistance? Browse Chicago dog trainers on the Wag! app — they’ll be more than happy to lend a helping hand.

Now that the rules and regulations are out of the way, it’s time to play! First stop, Fred Anderson Dog Park. This park provides everything you need for a dog’s day out, including drinking water, waste baggies, and separate areas for large and small dogs. The water features are a big hit in the summer. (Just make sure your pal is comfortable sharing the splash pad.)

The Montrose Dog Beach is a must for mutts with good manners. This off-leash beach is a popular hangout for pooches and people, so expect a crowd no matter what time of day you visit. If Rosie isn’t quite ready for this busy beach, that’s okay. Work on their recall, socialization, and obedience training with a Chicago dog trainer and you two will be sunbathing and splashing in no time flat.

Dog Training in Chicago, IL

Where will you find Chicago dog trainers after class? Hanging out with the local hounds at the city’s adoption centers and humane societies! Volunteering at the city’s shelters gives Chicago dog trainers important hands-on experience. Chicago is on a mission to become a 100% no-kill city, and its volunteers are working hard to help make that happen.

Given the city’s cold winter climate, it’s no surprise that the Siberian Husky is one of the top 10 dog breeds in Chicago. Huskies might be independent and a little mischievous at times, but they also rely on the companionship of other pups and people to stay happy. Their intelligence and work ethic will help them get the hang of obedience training quickly — but their strong hunting drive means off-leash training will be tricky. Afraid your Husky might take off after a critter at the dog park? Chicago dog trainers on the Wag! platform can help.

Another popular dog breed with Chicagoans is the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. With a healthy dose of positive reinforcement, this cute but cunning breed will excel at just about any type of training. Herding is in their instincts, but it won’t take much exercise to tire out these petite pups. Agility training is another great way to stimulate their minds and bodies.

Discover your doggo’s potential during a personalized session with a Chicago dog trainer. Whether you’re looking to learn basic obedience, fun tricks, or good social skills, experienced dog trainers on the Wag! app have you and your canine companion covered.
