I have been working in the pet care industry for approximately seven years now. I managed a daycare and pet boarding facility for four years and prior to that, I was a Kennel Supervisor for two years with a facility located in New Hampshire. More recently, I have worked as a Vet Tech in a general practice and emergency setting, as well as with a local animal shelter. Working as a Vet Tech has provided me with the opportunity to gain the knowledge and hands on experience of the medical aspect involved in providing care to both canines and felines. I have aspired to work with animals since I was a child and have always had a true passion toward them. I have years of experience in a canine pack environment, as well as one on one with most dog breeds. I also have personal experience, as I have two rescue dogs of my own. I feel this is very important when dealing with a client's pet, as it provides the assurance that their pet is in good hands. In addition to dogs, I have grown up living with cats my whole life. I also have worked with cats in both shelter and veterinary settings. From a ferrel cat to a lap cat, I have experienced both, yet love them all the same! I can confidently medicate any animal if necessary, including pilling to providing insulin injections. My main focus is currently working in the animal care field and furthering my education with my CVT. I absolutely love working in an environment where the focus is caring for animals. My ultimate goal is to own a rescue some day. I feel as though my passion for animals and my prior experience would be a great match for you and your pet! I look forward to hearing from you regarding your furry family members' needs!

“Every dog’s different & all deserve the same love!”

I‘ve been a Wag! Walker for year & have been an avid dog lover all my life! I’ve had two very different dogs; my first was a German Shepherd named Tash, a beautiful dog with enormous strength—so rewarding to train and be around. I currently own a finicky, anxious Mini Pinscher who I adore! I know Boston well and have been around animals my entire life, so I know how to earn a dog’s trust before taking control of the leash. I believe in positive reinforcement with dogs, & I think they do too!

About Dog Training in Malden, MA

Training Fun Fact #1:

How many commands can a dog learn in their lifetime? The short answer is, a lot. There’s no set limit of commands your dog can learn — that all depends on their intelligence, personality, and breed characteristics. (Not to mention the complexity of the command itself.) As for how many words dogs can learn, the amount varies depending on the source. Some say 125, some say 250. But just because they can learn that many words doesn’t mean they can learn that many commands. Why not try keeping count to see how many tricks your mutt can master?

Training Fun Fact #2:

Cats vs. dogs — it’s the age-old rivalry. Some dogs get along swimmingly with feline friends, while others go barking mad. Why don’t some dogs like cats? It all goes back to ancient instincts. Feral cats and dogs fought like — well, cats and dogs — over food. Dogs live in packs, while cats are solitary, which meant their ways of life were already at odds. Both cats and dogs try to scare off competitors through barking and hissing. Fortunately, it is possible to train a dog to get along with cats. However, it’s best to start both dogs and cats off young, during their respective socialization periods, to prevent any fighting.

Training Fun Fact #3:

Separation anxiety in dogs is a fairly common and well-known phenomenon. But some pet parents of mischievous mutts might be convinced dogs can fake separation anxiety. While this technically isn’t possible, some bad behaviors can be misinterpreted as separation anxiety. The easiest way to tell if your dog has separation anxiety is to see whether they exhibit certain behaviors in your presence. For example, does your dog only scratch at the door or chew the furniture when you’re not at home? If so, they might have separation anxiety. But if they act out while you’re home, they’re probably just trying to get your attention.

Average Cost of Dog Training in Malden, MA

Most Malden, MA dog training facilities charge by the hour for private sessions. The standard hourly rate is $125. Sessions may be held on-site or in your home. Other training packages combine multiple in-home lessons for a set price. You can expect to pay anywhere from $250 to $600 for this training option. Packages usually include 2 to 5 lessons covering a specific set commands or behavioral issues. Additional consultation fees may apply.

Group training classes in Malden range in price depending on your dog’s age and training needs. Puppy training classes start at $120 for a 4-week course. Basic obedience classes cost $300 on average for a 6-week course.

Obedience school isn’t always the best fit for every dog, or their parents’ budget. Prefer to get a taste of training before committing to a full course? Worried that your work schedule will clash with your dog’s classes? Booking a session with a Malden, MA dog trainer through Wag! is an affordable, flexible alternative. Dog training on the Wag! app puts you in full control over when and where your dog’s lessons take place. Your trainer will work with you to create a personalize session to address a specific issue. And for just $60 per hour-long lesson, you’ll have a few bucks left over to spoil Sparky with toys and treats for a job well done!

Going Off-Leash in Malden, MA

Is there a better place to test your dog’s training progress than the dog park? It’s a terrific way to gauge how your dog reacts in a busy environment full of other pups and people. (Not to mention it’s tons of fun for your pup.) The city of Malden boasts two off-leash zones where your pupper can play the day away. As long as your dog is licensed and wearing current vaccination tags, of course.

The first is Pine Banks Dog Park. With two separate areas for small and large breeds, this off-leash playground is a hit with local hounds. Trafton Dog Park is a no-frills park with plenty of room to roam and not much else. (In other words, don’t forget the waste baggies!) Both parks are part of larger community parks where leashed dogs are welcome. If you’re worried about your buddy roughhousing with other pooches, you can keep the leash attached and take them for a walk before their off-leash romp. Or, connect with a dog trainer near you to work on their socialization skills.

Dog trainers in Malden have experience working with a huge selection of breeds. So what breed reigns supreme in Malden? The Siberian Husky! Well-suited for Massachusetts’ winter weather, the Siberian Husky is highly intelligent and agile. Unfortunately, they can be tricky to train without the right approach. Their intelligence means they’ll get bored quickly if not kept physically and mentally stimulated, which can result in destructive behaviors. These wily dogs can also escape from a fenced yard easily if not closely supervised. Need a hand training your Husky to listen to you? Malden dog trainers on the Wag! app can help with that.

On the other paw, another of Malden’s most popular breeds, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, is a stark contrast. These friendly, affectionate little people-pleasers love showing off for their humans. They’ll work hard for those treats during training sessions! Just be sure to stay positive and praise every success — these gentle souls don’t respond well to negative reinforcement.

Whether your fur-child is brainy and independent or playful and affectionate, a refresher course on obedience and good behavior benefits every breed. Connect with a dog trainer near you on the Wag! app today and get ready to unleash your pupper’s potential!
