To date, three dogs have acquired a star on the Hollywood Hall of Fame. One of the dogs is Lassie, the famous Rough Collie who made the movies, radio shows, and television series by the same name a must-watch or listened to show. Lassie, a female character, was played by Pal, a clever canine who lived to be 18 years of age. Looking to put your furry buddy in the show business ring? Train them to do advanced tricks to impress the casting agent.
The Irish Wolfhound is known to be one of the tallest dogs in the world. When standing on their hind legs, they can reach seven feet tall. While tall dogs or dogs of heavy weight can be expensive to feed, they are a barrel of fun and certainly draw attention when out for a walk. It’s important to be able to handle these massive dogs, though, and they must be taught the rules the same as smaller dogs are. Etiquette for tall dogs? Do not eat from the table!
How well can Beagles smell? Way better than humans can, that’s for sure. This super-sniffer has over 200,000,000 scent receptors to work with. That is why they excel at jobs like picking up the scent of bedbugs and detecting forbidden items at the airport, such as drugs and meat. They are so keen to follow a scent that they will scale a fence to run off on a chase. If they can’t go over, they may even dig under it.
Are you excited to get started with training your dog? In Syracuse, in-home private lessons range between $85 and $120 for a one-hour session. Training is often addressed for both on-leash and off-leash lessons. Dogs who have behavioral issues can be helped as well, and typically an evaluation is done before the cost is decided upon.
Pep parents interested in Board and Train courses should expect to pay around $2000 for two weeks, but again, prices will vary according to the dog’s personality and how much work needs to be done. Group lessons are an option for pups who can work in a group. Whether registered in puppy kindergarten, level I obedience, advanced training and beyond, expect to pay around $150 for six-weeks of classes. Special classes, for example, for pups on two ends of the scale - aggressive to extremely shy - will need to be evaluated before beginning lessons.
Taking obedience classes is an essential part of being a well-trained doggo. No doubt, you and your four-legger are ready to begin. Flexibility is most likely an important part of the picture, and the ability to make class every week is a factor of success. If a lesson is missed, both you and your pup may find it hard to keep up with the other dogs next class.

Syracuse is known as the gateway to the Finger Lakes. Nature is at your fingertips, and it’s a great region to explore with your dog. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to play in the city’s parks but must be on a leash 6-feet long or less, unless in a specific off-leash park available to doggos.
Planning on hitting the parks in Syracuse? Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville is a place you and your furry companion don’t want to miss. It’s a year-round haven for pooches with trails perfect for hiking. Make a day of your adventure by packing a lunch and plenty of water for hydration. Have a bonding day, and get in shape at the same time.
Take a mini road trip to Greece Canal Dog Park in Rochester. This park has a large off-leash area for dogs to burn off energy and practice socialization learned in puppy class. Teach your woofer to greet other dogs calmly and politely by enrolling them in classes that will help them build obedience skills.
What are the goals you have for your four-legged friend? Start with basic obedience and work your way through beginner to advanced classes. Don’t forget the really fun stuff; include clubs and courses like agility, flyball, treibball, and nose work.
What kinds of dogs will be participating in clubs, waiting to be your dog’s next canine BFF? Dog owners in Syracuse have fallen in love with the big-eared, big-hearted French Bulldog. This pooch may be small in stature, but they are large in personality. They’ll demand your attention almost every minute, and that’s okay because they are truly hard to resist.
Larger dogs make the list, too. The all-time favorite across the United States is the gorgeous Golden Retriever. A sometimes goofy but always clever canine, the Golden Lab makes a good pet in just about every home. They’ll often be underfoot and won’t want to miss a thing. This got-to-be-there personality allows them to excel at tricks and tasks.
Also on the list are the German Shepherd, the Labrador Retriever, and the Bulldog. Take your pick; they are all fabulous companions.
No matter what your favorite breed of dog is, train them to be the best-behaved pup at the park. Connect with a dog trainer with Wag! in Syracuse and start the fun journey to pooch perfection today.
