The city of Aiken and the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare have a partnership when it comes to the Aiken Dog Park. As a matter of convenience, or simply great city planning, the dog park is located right next to the SPCA and spans over two acres and is open during daylight hours. A membership is required to utilize this park. An individual membership (limited to two dogs) costs $40 per dog, and a family membership (must have at least three dogs) costs $100. As with most dog parks, any dogs who are visiting must have proof of rabies vaccination and be spayed/neutered.
Leash up your dog and grab some water and trail mix, because Cathedral Aisle Trail is calling your name! This trail is part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, which consists of 1,600 rail-trails. Hear the birds chirp, watch a squirrel scamper up a tree, and simply let the stresses of reality melt away while you and your pooch take in nature’s beauty.
Do you enjoy the great outdoors, but also prefer not to give up all your luxurious amenities (like A/C)? Does your pooch go with you everywhere you go? Then Aiken RV Park is the place for you! Rates start at $35 (not including the pet fee), and dogs are allowed as long as they’re on their leashes when outside and are cleaned up after.
Hitchcock Woods is a beautiful urban forest tucked away in the Whiskey Road/ Berrie Road neighborhood. This natural setting sprawls over 2,000 acres and is a pupperific spot to bring your furry friend. Since there are dozens of trails to choose from, local joggers, walkers, and equestrians flock to these woods. Dog walkers also use this space, so your dog will have the chance to socialize with some four legged friends. The trails spread through longleaf pine forests and are lined with a variety of shrubs, vines, ferns and herbs. Your canine companion can commune with nature while getting some much needed exercise.
Aiken’s City Center is home to a couple pawsome canine shops. Stop by Bone-i-Fide Bakery and Grooming and pick up a decadent treat for your favorite four legged friend. Choose from delicacies like Cheeze Twists, Blueberry Lovers or Cheddar Bacon Balls. This local barkery uses healthy ingredients to produce their high quality treats. Personalized birthday cakes are also available. For supplies, head over to the nearby Downtown Dog. Their shelves are stocked with everything your pooch needs. Check out their selection of toys, collars, leashes and natural food. A trip to either of these stores will make your furry friend’s tail wag with delight!
