Allentown was named after William Allen who founded the city in 1972. It is the county seat of Lehigh County and is the largest of three cities that make up the Lehigh Valley. The city became well-known for it was the subject of Billy Joel Song called Allentown. The song depicted the decline of the manufacturing industry in the United Sates.

Along the little Lehigh River is the largest and one of the prettiest parks in Allentown, Lehigh Parkway. The park features many scenic exercise trails in addition to bridle paths, a shooting range, and many fishing locations. Lehigh River is truly a paradise for human, canines, and cats alike. Whether you're pup is young or old, leashed dogs are allowed in the park, just note all accidents should be cleaned up after. There are available plastic bags throughout the park to make the job a little easier.

Bring out the artist in you with some pottery, hand clay building, glass fusing, canvas painting and more! Opened in 1997, Paint Some Pottery has a wide range of options in doing paw prints on any medium. Pet bowls and snack canisters available. Gather the whole gang including your furry friends for some artsy-fartsy hobby. Who knows, your dog might be the next PUG-casso!

Take your shopaholic pup to Chaar who has a fine line of clothing and apparel for you and your animals. The business initially started as a Saddlery but grew to a more extensive shop for humans, dogs, cats and other animals. Let your pup stroll in the canine runway with some fashionable clothes from Chaar!

Stevens Park in Eighth Ward is a break from a densely populated neighborhood. This small park is not a perfect retreat, but it is a good destination for anyone looking to give their dog some much needed exercise! Stevens Park has a picnic area and playground equipment, as well as open grass. Dogs with energy to burn can leash up and do laps around the park. This park is a great resource for anyone who doesn’t want to have to drive to another neighborhood for fresh air and exercise. Social dogs will get their fill of human contact here!

1st Ward in Allentown is home to a wonderful hiking trail. D & L Trail -- Lehigh Canal (South) is a great resource for dogs who need to go the distance. This former canal path has been turned into a multi-use trail. You’ll meet other dogs, joggers, and even equestrians on the path. The canal path is long and doesn’t loop, so make sure to track your pace! If you’re in the area, you can also look up Canal Park and Keck Park. Both offer green spaces, park paths, and picnic areas. Make sure to keep your dog leashed in all three 1st Ward parks!

Trout Creek Park in Fairview is an amazing place to take the whole family, especially the ones with four legs. This park is set along Trout Creek, with direct access to the water. Kids will love the playground, and dogs are sure to love the walking paths and creek. You can walk your dog along a few short but scenic paths through the park and down by the water. There’s lots to sniff out by the creek bank! There are also water fountains, but bring your own dog bowl, as these fountains are too tall for Fido. Leashed dogs will find plenty to enjoy in this neighborhood park.

Despite the name, Cedar Beach Park is light on the “beach” aspect. Though there is some access to Cedar Creek, most of the park is divided into sports fields and playgrounds. It’s still a great place to take your dog, however! It’s large enough to tire out a dog with a lap or two. The variety of spaces give you a few new things to see every time you go. The park is often home to dog-friendly local events, from sports tournaments to fairs. If you’re just looking to walk by the water, don’t worry, you can do that too!
