Alpine is one of the many small boroughs found in Bergen County. Alpine enjoys a close proximity to its neighboring state of New York. No veterinary clinics operate in the borough's boundaries but it is a very short distance to any kind of veterinary care your pup may need. Emergency and specialty care can be found within a twenty-mile radius of the borough.

Alpine is the home address for Palisades Interstate Park. This linear park has 2,500 acres of land set aside for conservation and recreation. It follows the Hudson River for twelve miles and is a half a mile wide. Palisades is designated as a National Historic Site. People will find a place to fish, boat, picnic, and sightsee.

People with pups can get a workout on the thirty miles of trails. The Long Path and the Shore Trail will take a hiker for the entire twelve-mile length of the park. They are the main two trails.  Both of these trails are easy to moderately difficult for hikers. The one exception is a section of the Shore Trail called the "Giant Stairs," which has a boulder field and then a steep ascent.

Five trails connect Long Path and Shore Trail. The six ski trails are available for hiking off-season. Dogs are allowed on-leash on the hiking trails. Hikers will experience some exceptional views of the river and some inspiring scenery. Some parts of Palisades, such as picnic areas and buildings, do not allow dogs.

It is a six-mile drive west of Alpine to Westwood. Here, a person with a pent-up pup will find the West Woof Dog Run. This dog park has two fully fenced enclosures for off-leash exercise. One section is set aside for small dogs too. Those paws will run on a ground of mulch and dirt. Yes, sometimes dirt on those paws will happen! A sign of a very good time. A hose is available for a good rinse off. Kiddie pools show up in the hot months so remember to bring a towel. Human companions will find several park benches.  In the main park, a hike on an almost mile-long loop trail will give both person and pup a good stretch. A leash is required in the main park areas.

It includes a zoo, picnic areas, a fishing lake, and a 1.5-mile hiking trail. Dogs can't go to the zoo but can walk on a leash with their person on the hiking trail. The best feature, of course, is the dog park. This fully fenced playground for your pup lets your pup rid the leash and exercise with other canine pals.
