Rock Ranch
The Rock Ranch neighborhood of Amarillo is home to the Critter Camp Bark Park, a fun-filled dog park with a pond for swimming, whimsical benches to sit and climb on, an agility area for the ambitious and even a “time out” area for pups who need to chill. The park is clean and well-maintained, and is surrounded by a 6-foot fence that discourages even the most intrepid climbers. For the humans, there’s plenty of shade and regular benches as well, and they can even swim with the dogs in the pond if they wish. This is not the best-known dog park in Amarillo, but it’s a favorite among those who know about it!

The neighborhood known as Owners hosts the Amarillo Botanical Gardens, which shares green space and a river with the Medical Center Park and the Helium Tower Monument. Leashed dogs are welcome at all 3 of these beautiful spots, where there is ample space for walking with their human companions. Central Amarillo
The Central Amarillo neighborhood contains eastern portions of Amarillo Lake, also known as Wildhorse Lake. The lake was once a dependable source of water for wild horses, buffalo and cattle, but has evolved into a playa with a gentle slope to the lakebed. Bordering the lake on its northern edge is the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, a dog-friendly 12-acre expanse that features a walking trail, and covered picnic areas and grills. Also within the borders of Central Amarillo is the Mary Hazelrigg Park on 4th Avenue. This park offers plenty of open grass for dogs to romp while their human siblings enjoy the playground.

Plemons-Eakle
The Plemons-Eakle neighborhood is home to Ellwood Park, a leafy public area with large green expanses, picnic tables and a fenced dog run where unleashed fur-babies can romp free. It also boasts a rock garden and small waterfall that empties into a refreshing little pond. This is a great place for a jog or a bike ride with Fido at your side. The paths are marked and follow the perimeter of the park’s 27 acres. If all this exercise has made you hungry, stop by the Acapulco Mexican Restaurant and Bar for a bite of authentic Mexican cuisine, or the not-so-typical Mexican Stir-Fry. Avondale School Park is dog-friendly and features many amenities that appeal to families looking for a spot to spend some fun, leisurely time together.
