The Pontiac/Dhu Varren neighborhood is formed where these two Ann Arbor main roads cross. This residential area is kept natural through the placement of three amazing parks. If your pup turns up his nose at one, you have back-pups to choose from. Olson Park is the off-leash play area of your pup’s dreams. It’s a fenced dog run with plenty of room to make tracks. If your dog needs on-leash exercise, either Foxfire West Park or Foxfire North Park (two completely separate parks approximately one mile apart) can help.

Pittsfield
Contrary to the name, Pittsfield in south Ann Arbor is not the pits. This charming neighborhood hosts two parks across the street from each other. The first is Swift Run Dog Park. A roomy 10 acre park with separate runs for large and small dogs. If your dog isn’t the “swift run” type, you can either amble through Swift Run Dog Park or head across the street to Southeast Area Park. This park is complete with a playground for human children, and provides plenty of benches and items of interest for leashed dogs to explore at their leisure.

Kerrytown
Kerrytown is the home of Broadway Park. Broadway is a multi-use park, but is mainly left natural. When bringing your pup to this park, be prepared to rough it. Bringinging your own bowl and water is essential. The park is large and remote, but is not fenced, so skittish dogs or those who are still skeptical that you really mean “Come!” when you call them would do better on a leash. Weekdays are quieter than weekends, when the park is typically populated by students at the nearby University of Michigan.

Old West Side
Hitting the town with your dog in tow should always be as easy as it is in Old West Side. The city’s metro center for diverse bites and shopping brings two unique experiences within blocks of each other. Where Platt Road meets Packard, Buhr Park reigns supreme. This residential park is a destination for the whole neighborhood, and some of the surrounding areas as well. It has the space and set up for many activities, from baseball to ice hockey, and a picnic area equipped with grills. The large park offers enough walking paths and locations to provide an interesting walk to any local pup. Do laps of the whole thing or weave your way through. Just keep your dog on leash because Buhr Park is busy year-round.
