This almost 3-acre dog park gives dogs a place to run and socialize. The dog park has 3 fenced enclosures for small and large dogs, and a common area. The dog park is connected to a pond which lets dogs take a cool dip on a hot day. Drinking fountains provide fresh water for dogs and humans. The surface is a combination of mulch and grass. Fleming Park Lake Jacomo Dog Training Area is located at 7401 W. Park Road is an off-leash training area. It is not fenced, though, so make sure Fido stays under your control.

Liberty is 15 miles north of Atherton. Liberty Dog Park is located at 810 S. La Frenz Road. This dog park has 3 acres of fenced fun for off-leash exercise and socialization. The dog park has a separate area for the small dogs. This flat, grassy dog park has water, waste bags, and some pieces of agility equipment. A few benches and mature trees provide rest and shade for the human companions.The dog park is located within the larger Stocksdale Park. Stocksdale Park has miles of hiking trails for on-leash exercise. Stocksdale also has a lake, as well as areas for picnics and barbecues.

Lee’s Summit is 24 south of Atherton. Happy Tails Park is located at 1251 SE Ranson Road. This 4-acre, fully fenced dog park has a separate enclosure for small dogs. There is water on-site. Poop bags are in ample supply. The grassy dog park gives dogs plenty of opportunity to run and socialize. The dog park also has benches, and a bit of shade. Agility equipment adds a little extra fun and training to Fido’s outing. A paved walking path encircles the dog park, and makes for some added on-leash exercise. The James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area, located at 13101 SE Ranson Road, has several fishing lakes, and scenic hiking trails. Dog must be on leash to hike the trails. A portion of the Wildlife Area is dedicated to off-leash training for hunting dogs. This area must be reserved in advance.

Gladstone is 23 miles west of Atherton. Gladstone is one of many cities surrounding the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. As such, there are many shops and things to see and do. Yappy Hour Pet Resort is a commercial doggie daycare with a large indoor dog park. It is located at 6455 N. Prospect Avenue. Dogs may stay and play for a few hours, or board overnight.
