Auburn University Historic District
AG Heritage Park is owned by the University of Auburn and the Auburn Alumni Association, but is open to the public. It is located at the southwest corner of Samford and Donahue Drive on the University’s campus. It was created as part of the University’s commitment to their agricultural programs. The history and plans for the park are described on the College of Agriculture’s website. The park has 30 acres of grassy land, a red barn, and a pond. Dogs are allowed to run free off their leash, and enjoy a free romp or splash in the pond. The park includes doggy doo stations with reminders to clean up after that dog. There are also eight picnic tables and a pavilion. Future plans include accessible walking trails and an amphitheatre.

West Auburn
Kiesel Park, a veritable pet paradise of fun, is located in west Auburn at 520 Chadwick Lane. The park features a grassy, fenced area for some off-leash adventure. The dog park includes agility equipment for dog training and exercise, and a handy bench for the tired human. Kiesel is the city’s largest park. It features a walking trail, a garden, a pavilion, and pond. Kiesel Park also hosts the annual Bark in the Park event, sponsored by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. This free event gives dogs and their humans a chance to mingle with others, and sample some of the goodies of various vendors. Shelters provide an opportunity to adopt a rescue dog.

East Auburn
East Auburn boasts the off-leash dog park, Town Creek Park, located at 1150 S. Gay St. It features two walking trails, a pond, a pavilion, and a fenced area for off-leash recreation. The park provides water for dogs after their run, and a handy pet waste station. The dog park is a new addition to this large city park . It is was constructed with funds to make it accessible to people with disabilities. The city posts the rules of the dog park on its website. The rest of the 95 acres includes large green grassy areas, and acres of wooded beauty. A small creek runs along one of the trails, and provides a great doggy dip on a hot Alabama day. A shaded white swing decorates the green landscape, and gives dog and person a nice rest after enjoying their day.13
Cary Woods
Chewacia State Park, located at 124 Shell Toomer Parkway, covers 696 gorgeous acres. This park is pet-friendly, and has cabins for people traveling with their canine. The park does charge an entrance fee, and there is an additional fee for the dog-friendly cabin. Annual passes are available, too. Dogs are allowed to tent camp with their human, but must be confined or on a leash. This state park provides both walking trails and runs for mountain biking. Pups must be on a leash when enjoying the walking trail. There is, also, a large lake, and a swimming area off limits to dogs.
