Around 30,000 dogs live in Augusta, Georgia, so the residents must be dog lovers, right? And where you have dog lovers, there are usually plenty of dog-friendly activities in the area. For example, if you want to take Fido for a hike, check out the Augusta Canal Trail area, with trails for all skill levels. This 7½-mile dirt trail takes you between the Augusta Canal and the Savannah River. The rapids along the trail are gorgeous, and you will probably see boats and canoes along the way too. Cross over one of the bridges and you are in Savannah Rapids Park where the trail ends and you and Fido can take a break.
After the hike, you can get a bite to eat with your furbaby on Broad Street. The three local favorites, which are ironically in a perfect row, include: Nacho Mama's that serve awesome burritos and will give your pup some nachos; The Pizza Joint serves NYC style pizza’ and dogs are welcome anytime; and the Stillwater Taproom will let your furry friend inside while you enjoy a few drinks (don't really do this!)
Ready to crash? Take your pick of the pet-friendly hotels in Augusta. LaQuinta Inn on Washington Road, Augusta Red Roof Inn & Suites on Frontage, and the Doubletree by Hilton on Perimeter Parkway all welcome your furbaby for the night.
