Bakersfield was settled in 1858 by a few families who were going north through the El Tejon Pass looking for a place to live. The town’s namesake, Colonel Thomas Baker, would let the traveling families stay overnight on his land to rest. The city is near the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley in Kern County and is home to 363,630 individuals. Just under 100,000 families out of those living in Bakersfield own pets, such as cats and dogs, so the town has plenty of accredited animal hospitals and clinics available.

The city of Bakersfield has 59 parks all over town which host plenty of amenities like picnic tables, BBQ pits, pavilions, and many different kinds of areas for sports, such as tennis, soccer, baseball, and volleyball. Many of them welcome your pets while on a leash, and there are two parks just for dogs who like to run off the leash. Centennial Park offers a large fenced area for your furry friends to run off the leash and interact with other furries. They also have playgrounds, baseball fields, BBQ areas, picnic tables, basketball, tennis courts, volleyball, and restrooms so you and the family can spend an entire day there and not run out of fun things to do. Wilson Park also has a big off-leash play area and playgrounds, baseball fields, BBQ areas, picnic tables, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and restrooms. Both of these parks welcome your pets and family to enjoy the amenities.

After you spend the day at the park, if you want to get out and enjoy a show or dinner, there are plenty of places such as Akira’s Japanese, Agave Grill and Cantina, and Caesar’s Italian Delicatessen. Other attractions include concerts at Rabobank Arena, gambling at the Golden West Casino or take in the beauty of sculpture and painting at Bakersfield Museum of Art. You will find a little bit of everything in Bakersfield, so make the most of it!
